TV-2 Tube Tester Percent Quality Digital Meter 0-150%
This is a TV-2 Tube Tester Percent Quality Digital Meter. I made a few of these a few years back and this is the last one. The TV-2 Percent Quality is almost impossible to find now and if you find one. It is expensive. The original percent quality was 100 uA full scale, 250 ohms, and scaled 0-150. This meter will read 0-150% with the proper shunt and series resistors. You will have supply a 150 ohm shunt and 100 ohm series resistor. I used ¼% resistors for the best accuracy. Also a 9 VDC supply will be required for the meter. I mounted a 9 VDC AC adapter inside the TV-2 and wired the primary to the TV-2 On-Off power switch. Please see an example of one TV-2C/U testers with this style of digital meter. Please be advised you will have to supply some common parts and do some minor wiring. This would be good for checking tube bias. The meter weighs 6 ounces. This is a used Weston Model 506 dual-range ammeter. 1-100mA and 1-20mA. The panel cutout is 2.2" The meter face is 2.7" The meter body is of bakelite. The glass was reattached with a few drops of glue, though they didn't show up in the picture for some reason. There are no dents or cracks. The meter moves fine. The zero adjust works. This meter is small enough to fit in some tube testers that lack the ability to measure cathode current. If you have a transconductance tester. Insert this in the cathode circuit, and wire up a toggle switch to switch between 20mA and 100mA. It will tell you how much current. If you know the applied plate voltage and grid voltage, you will know the operating parameters of the tube and can compare your results against the book. This is a used Weston Model 301 ammeter. 1-8 volts DC, with a red reference mark at 4.5 volts. The panel cutout is 2-11/16" or close enough to 2.75" The meter face is 3" tall by 3.125" wide face, and is bakelite. There are no dents or cracks. The meter moves fine. The zero adjust works. Manufactured in July 1954. This would be good for checking heater voltage in 6.3v amps. The meter is made of bakelite. And weighs 7 ounces. I don't have a current source(one that is regulated) So I used my LCR meter to make rudimentary readings: inductance is.32mH including the 6" long test leads(the meter doesn't have a provision for zeroing out the leads) resistance is 494 ohms total(meter face says 62 ohms per volt; 8 times 62 is 496. This is a used Westinghouse meter. 1-150mA DC. The panel cutout is 3-3/4" The meter face is 4 3/16" wide by 3 15/16" tall. The corner radii are approximately 7/8" I don't have radii gauges, so that's a guess) The pictures show grommets. I removed those and installed two brass nuts, which is how it would've come from the factory. The meter wasn't zeroed out when I took pictures. However. The zero adjust works. This would be good for use with high current tubes. Inserted in the cathode to measure current(you would need to run a switch to check current-these shouldn't be left in-circuit indefinitely, unless it's bypassed) The meter is made of bakelite and weighs one pound(1lb) Very heavy for a meter.
