A series of practical articles written by experts in the various departments of book making and distributing with an introduction by Theodore L. De Vinne. Published by The Grafton Press New York. The full title of this interesting book on mechanical typesetting is Report to the American Newspaper Publisher's Association. By the committee in charge of the Type Composition Machine Tournament, Held in Chicago, Ill. October 12-17, 1891. It consists of a number of reports. Listings, and letters about the comparison of typesetting machine technologies. It compares machine speeds to hand typesetting. Machines include The Rogers Machine, The Mergenthaler Machine, and The McMillan Machine. 1891 was very early times for machine typesetting, which became more competitive before settling on devices made by a few companies. In this book, the Committee provides several conclusions, including"That Machine composition is absolutely practicable, and very much cheaper than hand composition. Rare Heads and Bodies For use in the Study and Planning of Linotype Copyright. 1946 Newspaper Typography Mergenthaler Linotype Company Brooklyn 5. New York Very Rare spiral bound book permanently bound in soft cover navy blue wraps. Front cover and spine face show gold gilded title. Gilding on the spineface is a bit darkened. Gilding to front cover is nearly perfect. Front cover has some minor wear, like some spotty soiling marks which are very difficult to detect with the naked eye as well as some rubbing to the outer edges. Reverse cover also shows some minor tatter to its outer edges. Spine face, likewise, shows minor tatter. Internally, the book is in Excellent or Like New condition with only a former owner's inscription written neatly in blue ink at the upper right hand corner of the first page. Book totals 110 pages. Measures approximately ... more10 3/4 x 8 x 1/2 inches and weighs about 1 pound.

Specimen Book of Type Faces and Borders This is a type face and border book that was used for The-Advertiser. The Herald-Dispatch and The Herald-Advertiser all newspapers in Huntington, West Virginia. It is a very nice book with type specimens, borders and some clip art. All of the fonts are named and are a good size for seeing what the type looks like. The fonts in this book are still available today even though the book is 55-60 years old.
