Boar's Tusk Corkscrew with 2 Silver-capped Ends
Outer length of boar's tusk is 8.25 inches. Diameter of tusk at widest end is 1.375 inches X 0.875 inches. Length of corkscrew and shaft is 4.75 inches. Weight of entire piece is approx. 8 ounces. End caps are custom-designed to fit the tusk. Both caps have an identical embossed pattern along the edges. Smaller cap marked with"Sterling" and what looks like the initial"D" Tusk base is carved with a wolf's head. Ears laid back and mouth wide open with bared fangs. The shape of the bone suggests that it comes from the left side of the boar's jaw. The corkscrew is made of a heavy metal. Probably nickel-plated iron. Straight from a Virginia estate. This set is in great condition. There is a large tray. Highly decorated in a seashell pattern(16 x 21) it has impressive feet and Seshell trim and massive handles. Also a cream pitcher(6' tall with handle) a sugar bowl with lid and decorative finial(7"tall) There are 2 pots. one I assume for coffee(11 1/2" and the other for tea( 10 1/2" All pieces are in great shape and marked with the hallmark on the bottom. This is an older vintage silver box which was made by Gillette in the USA and has the original label inside. Lovely attention to detail around top of box as I have tried to show in the photo. I am not an expert on silver. So I put silver plate on the listing, though this appears to be all silver work. Inside top has some wear, and bottom and outside beautiful.
