Up for auction is a very unusual piece of medical quackery in the form of an ultra violet ray and radiation machine- say what! This device was produced by Lawndale Laboratories in either Lawndale or Los Angeles. Calif during the 1930s or 1940s. These two different cities are listed on two separate labels on the unit. According to the instruction label located inside the lid- the machine was intended to be placed on the floor with one side raised by leaning on the box lid to form a foot rest. Place the bare feet across the tube or machine may be placed in the lap and both hands can lay across the tube. Internet research that I've done on this strange medical quackery device indicates it was touted as a cure for arthritis. Acne, asthma, bronchitis, hay fever, gout, dropsy, constipation, indigestion, jaundice, cold hands and feet, etc, etc ... moreas the list goes on and on and on. Just google"R& R ultra violet ray and radiation machine" and you'll get tons of hits on the unit and it's miracle claims. The auction you are bidding on is for a vintage. Original Cape Canaveral map poster produced by Radiation Incorporated in 1961 or 1962. The poster measures approx. 11" x 22.5" and can be dated by the fact that the Merritt Island launch facility is outlined but not yet built(the land was purchased in 1960) and the fact that the facility has not yet been named for Kennedy(which happened in 1963) so the poster has to be from 1961 to 1962. Featured prominently is the original AT&T Telstar Satellite, which has been used as the compass on the bottom part of the poster. I'm told by my father who used to work for Harris(the company Radiation Inc. would later merge with) that these were given out to guests from out of town to help them get around.
