Vintage 18-Foot - 45 Inches Deep Fish Net !!!
Here is a vintage. Antique fishing net, or there are bird nets that look like this, too. There was a state employee that used a net as this in the spring migration to catch birds and record them for a census as to how many there were passing through the state where this was found, Wisconsin. He would check it several times a day so no bird would be harmed. But as it has corks on the top and leak on the bottom. It was most likely a fish net. The net is 18 feet long and 45 inches deep. It could be lowered in a lake, river or stream to seign fish for food or for census purposes. This seller spread the net out and could not see any damage anywhere, but this does not assure that all is okay. The material that the net is composed of still seems to be strong and would hold good-sized fish. This is a real nice find. antique original united states military USGI WW2 World War Two with a real USGI camouflage net and original WWII era scrim{camouflage} material but the rim material was made out of'Hadfield Maganese' these were only made for only about a week or two during October of 1944,when the rim material changed from stainless to the same steel that the helmets were made from{ non glare Maganese} a' mc cord' mfg. steel pot{ there are traces of some type of unit or G.I. identification numbers painted on the inside} the chin straps are OK. but the right side is severely worn and frayed at the bail, it has the'j hook chin strap device. this has a scarce small square pattern camo net and decent liner webbing- the liner is made by' westinghouse' the liner has traces of old white winter camouflage paint. with no remaining signs ... moreof o.d. green paint underneath, the liners inner webbing is the typical light khaki. Herring bone weave web suspension material, and is in good condition,not torn stained or ripped the steel pot is in very good condition. There is a deep and clear letter' A' heat stamp marking in the front,but i cant quite read the other heat stamp numbers, maybe you will have better luck} The shell/steel pot has a few light dents on the top.no big deal,and shows just normal light finish wear to the dark shade of O.D. green paint guaranteed original. it has good USGI straps{ beware of helmets sold with crappy'repro' straps} a decent helmet for your display or collection to sum it up again.this is a rare,Maganese- front seam, swivel loop Mc Cord(oval spot-welds on rim) The liner is a Westinghouse with black painted"A" washers. An ornate set in an ecru color. The panels measure on the average about 86 x 26 inches. There's holes. Age/water spotting in places. They have an overall yellowing from age. This is typical to see with these early lace pieces. Just found from an estate. They came out of a Victorian house in my area. The lady of the estate was 104 when passing.
