I unpacked it and gave it a quick polishing. There is no major damage to any of the pieces; however, all the hollow knife handles have small dents or pinhead size indentations. Clear Glass Fishing Float with Original Netting- 18" I was unable to determine the marking on this glass fishing float. So I cannot be sure if it is a Japanese or Norwegian float. The marking on the bottom has"20" and then a symbol that looks like an oblong circle with 2 pointed triangles coming from each side of the circle. These corks were used on a pink salmon seine during much of the 1970s and early 80s. The are approximately 4" in diameter and 3" high. Each one varies slightly in color. These floats were used for the Dungeness Crab industry. They would mark where the crab pot traps were for the crab boats to pull the pots back up. They seldom break loose unless we have a huge storm. What's great about these is they are Styrofoam so they weigh less than the old wood ones and will last forever. This one is in good beachcombed condition. Looks very nautical! It was left out in the elements so it had some oxidize on it and has been cleaned with a lime remover. Most of it came off. The ball is not in perfect condition but still can be use. This teal aqua/blue/green basket ball size float has a 32.5" circumference including the rope net with a 10.34" diameter including net. There are many bubbles in the glass. No seams, no cracks and a 2 1/2" button seal. It has an attached rope approx. 106" in length. The first 4 photos were taken indoors and photos 5-6 were taken outside on an overcast day. It has the usual chipping around the button seal. This is a real fishing float- it is not a reproduction. It has some broken places in the wicker but no real holes. The leather straps are even in decent shape and the buckle closure works. The net has a solid frame. But the netting has several holes. Very, Very Unusual Vintage Fishing Net-Check this odd net out!
This net was the hit of the auction that I bought it at. Everyone was fascinated by it. It folds onto itself, sideways and fits into the green plastic sheath. You can see in photo#3 how it loops together to easily fit into the sheath. There are belt slits on the back of the green holder to slip through your belt for quick draw net access. There was a logo on the wooden handle but it has mostly been scraped off, I can make out CO. ONN but that it. The net is in great shape and I don't see any wrong holes or rips. It measures 15 1/2" in the sheath, net is 14 1/2" wide 12 1/2" top of net to handle, net is about 18" deep and the handle is 7" long. A very cool old net with a weird twist.
