B.C. Milam& Son Rustic No. 3 fishing reel. Reel has a nice counter balanced handle. Reel is marked B.C. Milam& Son. Frankfort, KY. Rustic No. 3 on the face plate, and is also marked 100 YDS on the bottom of the foot. The serial number 9917 is located on the inside rim of the back plate between the posts. The reel has been cleaned and serviced and is in excellent used condition as seen in the pics. The action is smooth as silk and the clicker functions well. This reel is quite scarce in this condition and would be a very nice addition to your collection.

It appears to be made of tonkin cane and the fore grip is made of 1/8" stacked cork rings- the butt grip has 1/2 inch rings. Note the amber agate guides. And the hexagon welted nickel silver ferrule. This is a 5 foot rod with original full length staggered butt and tip section. Only a few of the many intermediate wraps are missing. Scarce 1940's SHAPLEIGH'S #DR4 "Keen Kaster" Casting Reel With The ORIGINAL Box
Up for auction a Very Nice and seldom offered CIRCA 1940's SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE NO.DR4"KEEN KASTER" LEVEL-WIND CASTING REEL WITH THE ORIGINAL BOX. Actually built as a"trade" reel for Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St. Louis by the Ocean City Mfg. Co. of Philadelphia. Sometime just before or after WWII. In 1940 Shapleigh's Hardware bought out the Simmons Hardware Co. also of St. Louis, along with their famous trademarked"Keen Kutter" brandname of products. The fact that this reel carries the"Keen" Kaster name would indicate it was built after the 1940 acquisition. This reel was basically identical to Ocean City's No.999 model from their regular line of reels. Interestingly, the faceplate carries a metal tab held on by two pillar screws that reads"SHAPLEIGH'S No.DR4 KEEN KASTER" while ... moreunder the foot is stamped"MADE IN U.S.A. Comes equipped with strong clicker, smooth level-wind, anti-backlash control, removeable oil cap, cork arbor and dual swirled plastic handle grips. Reel is in about Very Fine condition for these, showing only light wear. Displays beautifully. Works perfectly, running very smooth and quiet. Put up in the scarce original box, which is correctly marked for the reel. Shows overall wear and some corner separations just starting to happen to the box bottom, but still remains solid and complete. Carries an almost complete front label. Vintage Richardson Talbot Tournament Casting Reel"Wm Stanley Model" made by The Richardson Rod& Reel Co. in Chicago is a free-spool reel and in excellent condition. The free-spool operates by pulling the handle out to disengage the gears and pushed in to re-engage them. The reel comes with clear sapphire jewels and a click. This is a scarce variation made in the early 1920's after the Talbot Company was sold to Richardson. The Richardson stamping on the head plate is faint. But clearly visible. You can still see the circular machining marks in the head plate. The reel also comes with an aluminum spool and a balsa wood arbor. See photos for condition.
