Shell Tempered Indian Bowl 1580-1615 AD ------Indian Pottery Arrowheads
Rare! You will NOT find an intact piece of shell tempered pottery outside of an archaeological dig. PERIOD! Matter of fact. Go to the museums at Jamestown and see the shell tempered pots they have on display. All of the shell tempered pottery they display, is in no where near as good condition as the bowl I'm selling. The pottery on display at the museums are broken into dozens of pieces, missing pieces etc, and they WERE dug out of an archaeological dig! I tried to get a COA but the historian(Cris Trimble of Trimble's Tavern Antiques 699 Rappahannock Drive. White Stone, VA 22578 1-804-436-1776) said it wasn't necessary cause there was NO way to fake the bowl. That being said, I will gladly jump through any hoops to authenticate this piece. I didn't really realize it was Indian pottery until I started to dig it out. And yes I realize there have been whole vessels found in the Mississippi area but they are most definitely NOT the same. Different tribes, climate, time. everything. The bowl for sale is so very much rarer than those. For sale is an Indian bowl I personally found at the mouth of the Chickahominy River in Williamsburg Virginia. The mouth of the Chickahominy River is approximately three miles from the first permanent English settlement in the new world. Jamestowne. The bowl is approximately 400 years old. 1580-1660 during the"very" late woodland period 900-1600. Probably closer to 1580-1615 as the Indians were ousted from the mouth of the Chickahominy River
