This sale is for 1 x-ray glass slide. 19 30-40's. Of a child 8 months old who swallowed an open safety pin. Caught at the bottom portion of the esophagus, it is clearly seen in t he x-ray. Being in the X-ray profession I have a good knowledge about these items. X-rays were discovered in the 1890's by a man named Roentgen. Pronounced"rankin" He was using a glass vacuum called a Crooke's Tube when he noticed phosphorescent material on the other side of the room. X being the sign for the unknown he named them x-rays. He was the first recipient of a nobel prize in physics for this invention. His first real x-ray was of his wifes hand. Until the 40's glass x-ray slides like these were used. Because they lose their clarity in light. They are best stored in a dark area for safe keeping. There are only a few. Descent glass ... morex-rays left because of storage issues and improper handling. Before this over 90% of these children who went to surgery would die of the operation but because of x-ray, tools were invented to non-evasively remove these foreign object without any surgery. This is an example of an x-ray that saved many children's lives and document the end of the glass x-ray slide era. Overall this is in great condition for a glass x-ray and is around 70 years old. Huge Vintage Estate Lot of Sewing Needles & Pins - Glass Heads - Safety Pins
This auction is for a lot of vintage& antique sewing needles/pins. I know absolutely nothing about sewing pins. So the photos will have to be a huge part of the description. I think all of the pins have glass heads except for the metal pins. Some of the glass pins are really gorgeous, especially in the light. The smaller shorter pins with the faux pearls& some of the others really need to be cleaned- I was not sure about the best way to clean them, so I will leave it up to the buyer. A couple of the gold tone safety pins have an etched design on them. There is also a rhinestone pin& a pin with an odd shaped red glass top that are really neat looking. This was an estate find- I was told that most of these are antique by a lady selling her grandmother's estate. These pins were stuck in a really dirty, dingy pin cushion that ... morehad been hand sewn by her grandmother. The pin cushion is heavy- I do not know what is in it, but it holds the pins really well. It is pictured in the last photo. It can probably be re-covered. THIS IS A VERY UNIQUE PIECE OF MEDICAL HISTORY. GLASS X-RAYS WERE OBSOLETE BY THE END OF THE 40'S AND THIS ONE. LIKE MY OTHERS, FALLS SOMEWHERE IN THE RANGE OF THE MID 20'S TO MID 40'S. THESE ARE FROM THE THE AREA OF NEWARK, NJ AS MANY OF THEM ARE MARKED BUT SOME ARE NOT. IT IS VERY HARD TO READ THE WRITING BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT SAYS BAR PIN OR BOBBY PIN, SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A SAFETY PIN TO ME SO THAT'S WHAT I PUT IN THE DESCRIPTION. THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF HOW X-RAY BECAME SO IMPORTANT TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION AND WHY IT CONTINUES TO BE THE BEST WAY TO LOCATE DENSE OBJECTS. Being in the X-ray profession I have a good knowledge about these items. X-rays were discovered in the 1890's by a man named Roentgen. Pronounced"rankin" He was using a glass vacuum called a Crooke's Tube when he ... morenoticed phosphorescent material on the other side of the room. X being the sign for the unknown he named them x-rays. He was the first recipient of a nobel prize in physics for this invention. His first real x-ray was of his wifes hand. Until the 40's glass x-ray slides like these were used. Because they lose their clarity in light. They are best stored in a dark area for safe keeping. There are only a few. Descent glass x-rays left because of storage issues and improper handling. Before this, over 90% of children who went to surgery would die of these types of operations but because of x-ray, tools were invented to non-evasively remove these foreign object without any surgery. This is an example of an x-ray that saved many children's lives and documented the end of the glass x-ray slide era. Overall this is in great condition for a glass x-ray and is around 70 years old. Up for sale is a set of NFA safety glasses. They are very unique looking but very comfortable at the same time. They originally had a plastic headband but it was rotten and i replaced it with elastic. It can now accomodate the largest of heads with no trouble. The lenses are very high quality American Optical glass and are one of the finest around. They are replaceable and most welding supplies carry a number of 2" 50mmm) lenses of different shades that can be swapped out for different applications. The glasses have a plastic body with metal lens supports and mesh"windows" on the sides. There is a border of corduroy where they rest on your face and are quite comfortable. I wore these glasses for a few hours in my shop to see how they feel and i have no complaints. I can think on one other use for these glasses and that would ... morebe for a Halloween costume. They bear a striking resemblance to the glasses worn by Tusken Raiders in Star Wars. Or at least could be modified to make something very close.

Rare Vintage Yamaha Rider Safety Course Glass mugs with"Instructor" on both. Mugs are from the early 1970's and the retro bike rider pic makes them a fun addition to a collection.
