Antique William H Jackson Coal Grate ~ Electrified~ Beautiful !
I have been in contact with William H Jackson company in New York. They have been in business since the mid 1800's in various locations in NY. They have looked at the grate and have dated it being made between 1912 and 1933. The original plate is on it along with the additional plate that was put on when they had it converted to electric with the amber glass. The glass is very old slags. Gorgeous when lit up. I used it for the holidays. While checking into this. They also advised me that this particular model is being made today as model 219 and starts at 3300.00 for the box alone. Naturally the plates etc. are different. I took alot of time to get the facts on this grate. Someone did try to paint some areas that you can see in picture. But it isn't anything that can't be taken off. They never finished the job. Which is better ... moreif you want it back to the worn look. It was definitely used to heat at one time. Now it is more a piece to admire. And deserves to be admired. Electrical is fine, no cracks. Looks like they took very good care of it. This item is not light. The glass alone is 15 pounds. The grate is about 75 pounds. We can dismantle to ship or ship as is carefully wrapped etc. If we dismantle, it would be just the legs to prevent damage and easy packing. The bulbs are all working. I took them out for pictures. Take a look at all the pictures and look at the detail. This is really a nice and rare piece. I love it, but we just don't have any reason to keep it in the house. There really isn't any room for it. All payments are through Pay Pal and within 48 hours of auction close. We will ship the item within 72 hours of payment clearing. We are usually fast with this, but this item will require a carrier other than USPS* IF YOU LIVE within a 50 mile radius of our zip code we can arrange to meet for pick up after payment received. This was a barn find when we cleaned out grandpa's barn this past summer. It was stored in the barn rafters with a bunch of other stuff. It appears to be'home made' The wood frame is well aged. The metal sifting piece is some type of heavy-duty. Porous, metal material. My guess is that is was used to sift grain or animal feed. It's heavy. The outside dimensions are 18" x 14 1/2" The inside dimensions are 15" x 12" The'height' is about 2 3/4" including the sifting piece. The sifting piece does have a residue on it; not sure what it is or if it can be cleaned. Will take best offers. Up for auction is for an antique arched/dome cast iron wall heat register. From bottom to the top of the arch it is 15 3/4" and it is 12 inches wide. It has no cracks or breaks but because this is cast iron there are places where it did not cast perfectly but they are not noticeable except by close inspection. It has sit in our store for many years. We have just sand blasted it and primed it with white so you can paint it to match whatever you want. This is old stock from Mark's Supply in Shenandoah. PA. It is a baked on finish I use on my cast iron pieces that makes the piece rust resistant as well as beautiful. This is not a spray painted piece. This is a old cold air return grate. Its wood and has many uses in a shabby home. I would use it for a hot plate right on the table. You could hang it on the wall for architectural detail or use it for a centerpiece with a collection on it. It measures 20" across and is just under 13" wide. Its 1" high. For Sale is I guess a stove grate shaker and/or lifter handle. Used for coal or wood stove. The handle looks to be a shaker and/or lifter handle and in good condition. Seems to be a pretty good size handle compared to many of them. The handle on the front side says"DRAW THE GRATE SLIDE OUT WHILE SHAKING THE GRATE" and the backside has the word"OAK" and in another place it has the word"NEUTIPE" or something very similar. The handle looks to have been chrome plated or something similar when it was made. Also it seems as if over time a little of the plating has came off in a couple very small areas and a little of rust has came through and it also looks as if someone in the past has put a clear coat over the entire handle to preserve it.
