I purchased this pedal because of price and wanted to see if it sounded like my favorite fuzz.the Oxfuzz( which has the 2N404 transistors) It was pretty close but did not have the low end that the Ox had. BUT it does now! I replaced the.01 output cap with a.1 mullard tropical fish(like the Ox has)and there it was! Nice full. Smooth fuzz. Nearly impossible to find and 3 examples of electronic history is 1 Ediswan PXA101 and 2 Ediswan XA101 germanium transistors from 1956. I have had these for many many years and acquired from from an old English Gentlemen who was an electronic repairman for many decades. These have never been used or soldered in any way. The white dot indicates the collector and all 3 test HFE listed in the pictures and all measure below 25uA in leakage. Ediswan issued five Germanium PNP junction transistors in 1956. All in a characteristic'top hat' package. The XA101 and XA102 were described respectively as an IF amplifier and a"frequency changer and/or oscillator on the medium and long wave bands" They had a maximum collector-emitter voltage of 16 volts and ... morea maximum power dissipation of 60 milliwatts. This is a lot of 7 used RCA 2N414 PNP germanium transistors from the 1960's. All test good on a curve tracer. They have beta's of between 50 and 100. The curve tracer display for one of the highest-beta units is shown. The horizontal scale is 2 volts per division. And the vertical scale is 2 milliamperes per division. The step size is 20 microamperes. One vertical division spacing between curves indicates a beta of 100(2 milliamperes divided by 20 microamperes) They all have shortened leads. Some have solder on the leads.
