They were purchased by my French source from a Chateau in the Poitou-Charente region of France at auction. It is exceedingly rare to find a complete set of 18 napkins along with 2 matching tablecloths.especially of this exceptional quality and condition. These 18 napkins and 2 tablecloths have been made of a very fine high thread-count linen damask of superb quality giving them a rich and silky hand. The damask pattern is elegantly strewn with roses and have classic borders. These napkins and the tablecloths have been hemmed by hand which is another sign of their high quality. They have been beautifully embroidered at their center with a richly elegant monogram which reads'C or G' and J' These linens would have been part of the trousseau of a noble French bride.A trousseau of trunks and armoires filled with linens for her eventual marriage. In a classic French trousseau there would have been many embroidered sheets. 7 WONDERFUL DOUBLE DAMASK DINNER NAPKINS or LAPKINS with Y MONOGRAM 26 INCHES
These beautiful linen napkins have the soft. Silky feel of aged linen. The napkins feature a Y monogram, measuring 1 1/2 inches tall in a padded satin stitch. The double damask fabric has a beautiful pattern with large leaves and thistles or flowers as shown in the last photo The napkins measure 26 inches square. This large size is sometimes called a lapkin. The napkins have a hand stitched hem. I would date them from around the turn of the century. 1890s to 1920s. CONDITION: Four of the napkins are in very good used condition. The other three are not perfect. Two of the napkins have large brownish stains that may come out with additional treatment. One napkin has a line of holes or wear that starts and stops for about 12 inches. The wear does not show when folded. And this one could be used as a bread basket liner or for other craft projects, ... moresuch as making a pillow with the monogram section. The napkins are priced close to a set of 4 beause of the flaws in the other 3. Double damask is very high quality, fine threads and has a wonderful feel. A set of 6 red with roosters and a set of 8 green with roosters. They are approximately 5x7 inches in size and are a thin cotton. One red one has two holes in it- looks like a hole puncher was used on it. there is also one green with a tear at the edge. Smithsonian Institute 69X54 Tablecloth and Napkins Set - Red Floral
We found this Smithsonian Institute tablecloth/napkin set at an estate sale. They no long carry many textiles but when they did. The designs were reproductions of older textile exhibits- unfortunately we can't identify this design. The background is red with multi-colored floral design. The set includes four 19" square 100% cotton napkins which have been stitched in a certain way on the back that results in a patchwork-like border around all edges. Also included is a matching 69" X 54" cotton tablecloth. Stitched the same way to create a wide border around all edges. CONDITION: We were told these pieces were never used and after examining them would agree this is possible- the colors are vivid with no sign of fading. No stains or snags; labels appear unwashed.

A set of two lovely Luncheon placemats that have appliqued flowers. The Napkins fit in the little pockets as shown. The colours are stronger than they appear in the photos. The placemats measure 18" x 12" and the napkins are 13.5" square. These are vintage but have never been used. In fact the napkins still have their original folds. This listing is for a set of 4 vintage handmade napkins. The fabric is white cotton that may be flour or feed sack. They feature a hand crocheted border done in red and white. There is a flower arrangement in one corner. These are identical except two of them have light red flowers and two have dark red ones. The napkins measure 8 1/2" by 9" and are in excellent condition. The tablecloth measures 43" x 43" and doesn't appear to be used. I found the four napkins to be pinned to it and they had been for some time. The pins. When removed left little orange rust? specks at the holes. I found a couple of light smudges that appear to be from storage. I haven't laundered/treated the set, but I believe they'd likely come out.
