Up for bid is a neat old empty tin that once held 70 ounces(over 4 lb! of SamAndy Cracked Wheat.found it at an estate sale. In the pantry. It is in excellent shape for something that is probably at least 30-35 years old, just a little staining and wear on the paper label, and some rippling from being exposed to some moisture- see my photos for detail. There is no lid- but the can was opened from the bottom, which makes it display nicely. And I love the slogan at the top of the front panel of the can- LIFE INSURANCE IN A CAN" cool! This is a unique circa early 1900's double glass door metal cracker box lid by National Bisquit Company. now known as Nabisco) bakers of the UNEEDA crackers. Has"UNEEDA BAKERS" embossed on it. See pic 2. Historical note: The Uneeda Biscuit brand of cracker was created around 1899 by the National Biscuit Company. Later known as Nabisco. It was the first advertising campaign to feature a packaged, ready-to-eat food. Most of these type lids either had a single pane pull open up lid or a single sliding glass door. So this one is a bit unique. They fit on top if either a wooden or tin box filled with crackers. Customers just opened the lid and grabbed a handful or two of crackers and paid for them. Gordon's Cracker Jar, Original Lid, 1930's Chev Truck Design, Vintage
I am offering a great piece of advertising history. This is a cracker or peanut jar for Gordon's. I wasn't able to find out much about the company. But it was"The Gordon's Company" and operated in OH& PA. It appears that it was purchased at some point by Tom's. Under the 1930's Chevrolet Truck design is the phrase, Trucks Serving the Best. I believe this to be from the 1940's or 50's. Originally this would have sat with 3 other jars in a metal rack near the store counter. This is a good sized jar. It is approximately 10 3/8" tall. Without the lid. The jar itself is in excellent condition.no chips or cracks. The red design is a little faded and there are a couple light scuffs. The lid is in good condition. This is an Antique Chines Hexagonal green ginger jar/ storage pot. It is a heavy pot with a clay lid and a raised relief design on each of its six sides. Green glaze stopping short of the unglazed flat base. Measures approx.3 inches high and 3 ¾ inches wide. The clay lid is three quarters of an inch high and three inches across. Early to mid- 20 th Century manufacture. Condition is very good. Signs of wear and use commensurate with age(crazing. Glaze loss on the inner rim which may have been original to making. It is made of a strong clear acrylic and is still in pretty nice condition. although there are some rub marks on one side(still looks quite attractive on the table) It has a sealed section that surrounds the bucket area and helps to keep the wine cool for a long time. This is a tin container with a hinged top that lifts easily and works fine. It's the 8 ounce size of MONARCH GREEN TEA. And i t's 5 1/2 inches tall and 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 in width and depth. The printed lithograph container is in beautiful condition and dates around 1923. The lid can easily be read. Made by Reid Murdoch& Co. Chicago, Ill.
