The hotel was built in 1911 on Broadway at West 44th Street on the site of the former Rector's Restaurant that was frequented by Diamond Jim Brady. ASCAP. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, was formed at the Hotel Claridge in 1914. The Camel Cigarette Man blew smoke rings from a billboard atop the Claridge from 1941 to 1966. The hotel was demolished in 1972. Its' site is currently occupied by ABC's Times Square Studio.
