WWII German Vintage Leather Medical Field Kit D.R.G.M. Surgical Instruments
For your consideration is an early leather fold medical field pouch(6.5" by 3" with three instruments inside. The inside of the pouch reads D.R.G.M. at bottom of one flap and has the Dr.s name who it belonged to at the top which I cannot entirely make out. Included is one tweezers. Thermometer in case(thermometer is cracked) and depressor/suturing tool(not exactly sure) The leather on the case is in delicate shape and crackling. Condition of items consistent with use and age. Huge Lot around 150 surgical medical instruments No Reserve Vintage?
HUGE LOT OF VINTAGE? SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS AMAZING COLLECTION BRAND NAMES! Up for auction is this lot of around 150 surgical instruments I got this from the estate of a retired surgeon. I dont know a thing about this stuff and the more research I have done on this lot the more I don't want to know. I see some of these pieces can sell for more then $100 even the small instruments can go for $30 or more. There has got to be over $5000 worth of stuff. I see someone selling a lot of six of the spinal clamps for a thousand dollars and there are four or five of them in this lot. Everything appears to work some might need a drop of oil but like I said I don't know about this stuff maybe some of these things should have a certain amount of resistance. It looks like one or two of these tools might have been disassembled but the others look ... moreok. From what I have researched so far I have identified a scalp retractor various bone cutters different kind of hemostats scissors and clamps there is also different sizes of speculums and forceps as well as tissue spreader and rib cutters just a whole bunch of stuff and that is just the things I researched. I would say 90% of these tools are surgical stainless steele and the rest are aluminum. The weight of the lot is 25 1/2 pounds but I did manage to get it all in a flat rate shipping box so the shipping charges are sixteen dollars and some change. You have to be careful with this stuff because most of the items in here are EXTREMLY sharp and pointy. A few of these insturments points are much much smaller then a needle and will puncture skin if you just look at them the worng way so be VERY carefull unpacking this stuff. I have written down some of the name brands of these insturments many of which have either serial numbers or model numbers. This lot includes itmes from manufactueres such as Damco. WWI vintage/original surgical cloth case with 9 instruments.
This is a cloth WWI vintage/original surgical field case or kit. It measures 16" long by 6 1/2" opened. It case is in good solid condition but shows some staining. The outside is marked. Case, Forceps, Haemostatic, PAR 915, M.M.D. 1917. On the inside is marked George P. Pilling and Son, Co. contract dated June 18, 1917. Inside there are 16 loops that are frayed but solid. The case contains 9 surgical instruments that do not necessarily appear to be original to the case but to appear to be vintage to the case. This kit belonged to my father-in-law who was a physician in WWI but I am not certain of the origin of the instruments in the case. The instruments include: Three haemostatic forceps, one tissue forceps marked Wenzler, Germany, two dressing forceps, one twisted applicator, one suture scissors, and one curette. Offering today a huge assortement of vintage medical and surgical instruments from my late father's estate. He was both an M.D. and an ecclectic collector(some might say hoarder? Anyway. Here is a varied assortment of over 50 pieces of shiny things which I've barely got any idea about. The speculums are fairly obvious, I guess the tiny ones on the right of the photo are for noses? 3 reflex hammers, check. 4 bone files or saws to the left of the reflex hammers. A few wicked looking bent forks to the right(spreaders? tissue retractors? A big long pair of tongs I see them passing gauze sponges with when I watch reruns of M.A.S.H. I am not exactly sure of the date however, but I would have thought early 1900s. The instruments are marked‘Weiss London’ and some have‘OPS’ or‘RLOH OPS’ on them. There are two‘Weiss’ steel items. Six‘Weiss’ with handles of a natural material(possibly cattle bone– definitely not man made) and one metal item marked‘Pemm USA’ which is probably a later addition. Condition: Not all items are present; there are three empty spaces. ... moreMost are good condition with just minor signs of wear from age and use and the natural handles have yellowed a bit from age. The case is fairly good condition with the clip working fine; there are just some signs of wear to the exterior. Vintage Surgical or Hygiene Instruments. Faux handle ?
This is a very interesting group of tools/ instruments. Of the very most interest and by far the most desirable piece in this group is the largest one which measures 4.5" in length and looks to be a scaple of some sort as one edge is razor sharp. The handle is what makes this piece the MOST interesting and of most value as it is most certainly seems to be made of an organic material. Most likely bone, tooth or even perhaps faux Ivory. I have no way of absolutely knowing but its does NOT look plastic. The two smaller instruments look like manicure tools of some sort. the middle tool has a white plastic handle and the smallest tool has a very dry but intact rubber handle.
