Talking with one of the old carnys revealed that they used indiviudal letters for a couple of reasons. Painted signs were expensive and could not be changed. If you could change your sign on a moments notice and you ran out of something or your sales were slow on something you could switch to what was working. For example. On a cool night ice cream is slow but gyros/burgers/fries move. This particular carny would have 8 to 10 concessions at one location and many times would be working 3 to 4 locations at the same time. Makes sense I guess. Simply an early version of the lighted signs with plastic letters. Only the letter is for sale. Just included the other pics to show where they came from. 12 inches tall and about 1/2 thick. From an old carnival operation now out of business. Used to make various signs for several different ride and food ... moreconcessions. At any given time during the carnival season this outfit would be operating around 150 food and ride concessions.
