The translucent gold glass treatment resembles mercury glass in character. The letter dates from 1890's to 1900's. And was designed to use on signs and reader boards. Gold letters look exceptionally rich on a dark background and were used on higher quality signs. Front surface of the letter is smooth. So it really comes alive with reflected light. Back edge of letter has been ground to allow it to lay flat, and a brushed-on coating of a duller. Opaque gold paint ws applied as backing. Up for bid is a Vintage Wagner Theater Marquee Sign. It is of the letter Z. It is made out of some kind of metal. It is marked on it backside Alder Sign Letter Co. It measures about 10" tall. The paint is flaking. You can leave it the way it is or you can paint it any color you like. I was lucky to come upon lots of letters and signs used on the Marquee of the Lockport Palace Theatre. Vintage 12 Inch Carnival Sign Food & Ride Concession Wood Letter A (read info)
One of very few of these I have found. Plugged it in and left it on for 5 hours and everything worked fine. However. Never and I mean never plug in an older device like this and leave unattended, NEVER! I will include the bulbs but make no promise on how long the will last. Only the letter is included in this auction. I will be listing some of the other things shown in the pics in a different auction. Just wanted to give you an idea where the letter came from. It looks like this letter at one time had lights in or behind it. It has two bolts in it apparently used for mounting. It is 12 inches high and about 8 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. Used to make various signs for several different ride and food concessions. At any given time during the carnival season this outfit would be operating around 150 food and ride concessions. Most of the ... moreold games are gone but these letters were used to make interchangeable signs for different locations.
