From the top edge of the larger piece to the bottom edge of its"stem" is approx. 3/4" This does not include the screw inside that piece.This has some darkening from age. Possibly wear. This is an authentic Dutch oak kas built during the renaissance c. 1650. I purchased it 20 years ago from an estate in the Hudson River Valley. The estate was known as Oak Lawn and was the childhood home of Eleanor Roosevelt. It may. Or may not. Have been part of the original owners( Livingstone or Valentine Hall family) estate. It was typical the leave behind these large pieces with the estate sale. The property was sold to a hunting and fishing club in 1955. No one could say how long it was in the mansion prior to the 1955 sale. These cabinets were popular as wedding presents during the golden age of Dutch history. The condition is commensurate with age. The caryatids were at some point removed and replaced. They were removed by a someone when the estate was unguarded. But luckily they were recovered and and replaced. Rare Antique 1800s Oak Courthouse Document Storage Cabinet — 36 Drawers!
A beautiful 1800s antique oak cabinet with 36 drawers. A document storage cabinet from the courthouse in Bedford. Pennsylvania, the county seat of Bedford County. The cabinet has a wonderful golden oak patina with lots of character. There are a couple of Dutchman patches as well a top made of two types of wood with several holes filled with oak plugs. The oak and poplar on the top and the many holes that were filled leads me to believe there was a component(shelving? that rested on top with just the first 10” or so of oak showing. The top measures 50 1/8” long x 19 1/4” deep. The inside of the drawers at 10” x 16” would easily accommodate legal size(8 1/2” x 14” paper. Drawer pulls on the small drawers are black stained wood with brass accents and brass nuts and bolts. The larger drawers have solid brass cast drawer handles. All the exterior ... morewood is solid oak and the secondary woods are pine and poplar. Nice moulding details on the edges and side panels. The overall measurement of the cabinet is 50 1/8’ long x 19 1/4” deep x 31” tall. Back is covered with large pine boards. Cabinet was refinished by a previous owner. 32 Small Drawers: Fronts are 3/4” solid oak with 3/16" thick sides and bottoms. The sides and bottoms are solid poplar and pine. The overall measurement is 10 3/4” wide x 17” deep x 2 3/8” tall. Inside measurement is 10” wide x 16 1/8” deep x 1 1/2” tall. Knobs are turned wood with brass accents and solid brass nuts and bolts. Two center rows of drawers are exactly the same. The right and left side drawers were intentionally cut flush to the box side so they can slide into the cabinet frame. 4 Large Drawers: Fronts are 3/4” solid oak with 3/16" thick sides and bottoms. The sides and bottoms are solid poplar and pine. Handles are solid cast brass with an ornamental design. The overall measurement is 10 3/4” wide x 17” deep x 4 1/2” tall.
