Up for auction this original First World War British victory medal awarded to Private Charles Reed of the D.L.I. who also served in the Northumberland Fusiliers. Please refer to the scan. Which hopefully is reasonably self-explanatory. The medal is correctly impressed with the recipient's details" 3-11789 PTE. C. REED. DURH. L. I. His M.I.C. indicates that Private Charles Reed was entitled to a 1914-15 Star Trio and that he entered France on 21 May 1915. It also indicates that he also served in the Nothumberland Fusiliers under service number 26309. I have not carried out any further research. vintage? BULL DURHAM smoking tobacco poster print Black Americana without match
This is a Bull Durham tobacco print or poster featuring two black men smoking pipes while out hunting. They have guns and there is a child& dog with them. The bottom says Without A Match. It is in a dark gold frame. The frame measures 19" x 26" so the print/poster is slightly smaller than that. I do not know how to tell if this is a reproduction or original older print. Advice is welcome. The back of the frame is sealed and there are some knicks in the frame. It is pretty heavy. Further details of the history and evolution of this regiment into the Durham Light Infantry are provided on the reverse side. This is a vintage wind up Donald Duck toy that was made by Durham Industries in Japan. It measures approx. 6 1/2" tall. The body is plastic. The wind up key is present and made of metal. As is the mechanism. It says, Durham Industries, Made In Japan" on both the back and bottom. The toy works fine! The sticker is present. As you can see in photo#3. I have looked and looked but I heve never seen another example of this toy with a red jacket! This vintage Donald Duck would make an awesome addition to any Disney or toy collection. DLI Durham Light Infantry football medal to KIA Casualty 1914
A football medal awarded by the 2 nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry. The medal has the following engraved on the reverse: INTER COMPANY FOOTBALL 1913-14” WINNERS C. COMPANY PTE. J. A. GOLDEN” There is a 10799 Pte.J.Golden of the 2 nd Battalion DLI who is listed as killed in action in Flanders on 20 th October 1914. I think it is highly probable that this sports medal is his as there are no other DLI soldiers with the initial and name“J.Golden” who were entitled to the 1914 Star. His Medal Index Card shows that he landed in France on 8 th September 1914. SDIGW shows that he was born at West Hartlepool& had enlisted at South Shields. The medal is around VF condition and dark toned. I think it is probably silver. But is not hallmarked. Please see my other medal sales which may be of interest.
