It's essentially a horizontal bandsaw in a vertical configuration. The blade and vertical column travel on an inclined track that gravity feeds(with hydraulic feed control) into the material to be cut. Doall 16x12 Hydraulic Horizontal Bandsaw C-168A?- Project
This is a very well used Doall horizontal bandsaw. Its a project and does not work right now. I did a little work on it. Then gave up as i have too many projects that are more interesting right now. The data plate is missing. But I think this is a model C-168A machine, as it's the only one I could find that appears to have similar hydraulics. The machine is setup to run on 208/240v 3 phase. It has about 16" x 12" daylight. The vise can angle(manually) for miter cuts. It is almost all hydraulically operated. The arm raise and lower. Vise, and even the blade tensioner are all hydraulic. It appears to be all there. But as you can see from the photos its pretty rough. Paint, missing the control console top cover, missing back cover over the belts and pulleys, a few bent places in the catch tray surrounding the saw, brazed part on ... morethe sliding vise bar, etc. Obviously it's been rode hard and put up wet. I blew it off with a hot pressure washer which removed a good amount of gook. Dried oil and chips. I tried running the machine. I was able to get the blade to rotate. That much of the electrics seem ok. The motor sounded fine and the wiring isn't trashed. But the 220/110 transformer looks like some of the paper wrap over the coils is a little damaged. I didn't get a short or anything, so it may be good. If I was going to do this project, I might be tempted to replace it just for good measure. There were no funny noises while the blade was going. So the blade gear drive is good. It had a broken hard hydraulic line, near the back pressure gage. I replaced a small fitting which solved that. Prior to that repair, it pumped out a fair amount of hydraulic oil all over: So, the hydraulic pump is working, too. Once I repaired the major hydraulic leak. I tried to fire up the machine again. I couldn't get the blade to rotate again. It might have been something as simple as it hit a stop/limit switch, or it might be a bad connection somewhere. The motor and pump are both working great. It can be run on 230/460 volts 3 phase power. It doesn't need much. The chain and cover for the feed length counter. The handle works and it changes the feed length, right now you just have to measure the first part when it feeds out. I think you can see in the pictures the front cover that covers the hydraulic unit. Blade covers? It does work well. If you set the parts counter it will cut until it reaches the input count and then it shuts off. It cuts real square, and the 1" blade is rigid and makes for a nice cut.
