N scale Amtrak set both F40s are powered
The second F40 is not from the original set and is powered. Other locomotives run forward and reverse and have operating lights. The locomotive numbers are the same and the second locomotive runs. But seems to have slipping gears. The second locomotive will not carry a load very well and probably needs some work. The first locomotive runs well and was tested with a 6 passenger car load. The caboose has bee in a case on display since I received the set. Please remember the second locomotive runs fine alone, but not carry any cars due to gear issues. This is the Triang Blue Pullman 3 car set. I believe this to be circa 1968. Given the livery and yellow engine fronts. The items are branded Triang, rather than Hornby or HornbyTriang. These are blemished here and there as you might expect from an item of this age but generally I think they are not bad. Please examine the pictures- they look to me to be complete and as far as I can see. All the internal lamps etc are still in place for example. I can't recall exactly where/when I purchased these now. But it would have been some years ago. The set has one powered bogie which runs smoothly and remarkably well given its age. You are looking at a great lot of powerful electro-mechanical gyroscopes. These were intended to be part of a stabilized mobile camera mount(referred to in the industry as a Stedi-Cam) which would allow you to walk around freely but eliminate the handheld shakiness. It was intended for my son. But he went into video POST-production instead of production. He is behind a computer monitor and not a camera. I do I.T. consulting so I have access to lots of hard drives that I remove from servers. When I thought of creating a powerful gyroscope. It occurred to me that computer hard drives have some of the highest grade bearings made anywhere, the components were exquisitely balanced and were as quiet is such a device could be. I collected(and ordered) stacks of high-speed hard drives, opened them up and removed everything by the control circuitry ... moreand motor. I scavenged the metal platters from some and filled others to their physical capacity. Instead of 2 disks, these might have 9 or 11. Imagine a 1/2" aluminum disk spinning at 10,000 or 7,200 rpm. It puts up a pretty good fight when you hold it in your hand. Included in this auction are four gyroscopes(2@7.200rpm and 2@10,000rpm) I also include 50 watt DC-DC converter to take a common 12v or 24v power source and convert it to 5V to power the hard drives with as much as 10 amps. I will also include a 12v Lithium Ion rechargeable battery pack. I can't guarantee the battery pack since it has been sitting for the better part of a year, but such battery packs aren't expensive. My little experimental battery pack had the juice to power both 7,200rpm units, but NOT both of the 10,000rpm units. OK.
