You are bidding on a vintage metal 5 gallon gas can. It is made by the Protectoseal Co Safety Gas Can 5-Gal. Chicago Underwriters' Laboratories. It measures approx. 17"h by 12" in diameter. It is in very good vintage condition with some rust around bottom lip(normal for it's age and doesn't affect anything) The inside has what looks like an aluminum mesh insert that looks brand new. Looked inside with a flashlight. And there doesn't seem to be any interior rust; hard to see. I think this can might have only used for show. Some paint is missing(please view photos) There are still parts of some warning stickers around body. I saw two small dents around body. All in all it's not only useable but a great collectors item. Antique/Vintage Red Protectoseal Co 1 Gallon Safety Can w/ Org.Spout ~ Gas Can ~ 1950's ~ Underwriters' Laboratories. Inc. Used. Is being sold as a collectible or décor only. I believe it's from the 1950's. And my guess is that it is 1 gallon. not stated on the can) Has been stored in my great grandfather's garage. In a clean dry area. He held on to just about everything and created a collection out of just about anything! Neat old item! Does show some wear and tear. It is old. It was used, it has been sitting for many years! Gave it a quick wipe down. But depending on your likeness, it may need a little more cleaning up. Some small chips in paint. Residue, light scratches, a little bit of surface rust here and there. Bottom rim is a bit more warn, was probably used more often. A few small dents. There is also rust ... moreinside. You can hear it when you shake the can. No rot that I could find. Red in color. Spring is nice and tight! Cover works good and lifts up and down fine. Spout does come off. Believe it's original to the item. At least to my great grandfather using it many years ago. Is how he left it when he was done. Stands a little over 8 3/4 inches tall. Not including the spout. Bottom is about 8 1/2 inches in diameter. Spout is about 6 1/4 inches.
