1900 England, Antique Long Tray by Empire Works EPC, Stokes on Trent, w/Cameos
This is a fabulous older English piece by Empire Works E.P.C. Stokes on Trent. The company was founded in 1896 and ceased in 1967. The tray definitely one of their earliest pieces as indicated by the makers mark on the underside. The first mark the company ever used is the one on this piece, which reads: initials EPC on top of Empire Works, which is on top of Stokes on Trent( photo 11) The tray is long and thin with handles on each side. There are beautiful cameos on each end featuring young woman with a young child. The border is done in a thick band of royal blue, and there is a small gold design under the blue. The condition of the tray is overall pretty good; there is crazing, and the gold paint has faded in some of the border. This can be attributed to age, and is understandable when considering the great age of this tray. Please view ... moreall all the photos to get a good look at all the angles. It has maintained a very good look, and will display beautifully. It measures 19 in by 5 and a 1/2 in, and the weight is about 3 pounds. Pieces such as this continue to be quite collectable. It clearly shows when it is cooked. It has a sweet, rich and creamy flavor. It is more dense and drier than regular sweet potatoes.
