Nice little folding magnifying glass that has advertising for Safetex Gummed Tape. Folds up nice and tight and the spring mechanism is in good working order. Measures about 1 1/4 inches square. Victorian/Edwardian Vintage Tin Gummed Paper/Tape Dispenser with Butterfly
Late 19th/early 20th Century blue painted tin holder for dispensing gummed paper or fabric tape. With a Camberwell Beauty butterfly on it and gilt decoration. This is a super little vintage item. Probably for the rolls of dry gummed paper that were used for taping up brown paper parcels- you would have used a dampened pad with it. The top of the tin lifts off and inside there is a blade inserted so the paper can be threaded through and then torn off cleanly on the outside. There is a tiny scrap of brown paper inside which was stuck in the cutting blade. It’s also possible it was used as a sewing accessory for tape or ribbon. Though I don’t think the cutter would have gone through material. There is a transfer print of a Camberwell Beauty butterfly on both top and bottom of the tin. Still showing lovely colours. The sides of the tin have two ... moremeasuring gauges printed in gold top and bottom, quite unusual as one is in inches and one in centimetres, so you can measure the exact length of tape you need. The outside is painted in a blue-green colour. Similar to old Victorian biscuit tins. I have seen mid-19th century tape dispensers but not with internal cutters.
