This is made out of cast iron and coated with a dark green textured finish. Of course there is wear to the finish from use, but this is in very good condition for it's age. This was used in a store in Ontonagon, Mi. for many years. These large dispensers were set on the countertop and held a sponge that was wet. Back then things were wrapped in brown paper, ... moreand the moist tape was used to seal the package. There is even a partial roll of the original"Thank You" tape inside. I don't think the glue is good anymore on the tape, but you never know. This is in excellent working condition. It still even has the original sponge material. The lever on top was used to cut the tape. It measures 14 1/2" long x 4" wide and weighs a whopping 17 lbs. What a great look this would be on the countertop of your store. May 14. 1918" and"star symbol 5" as well as a few various numbers, this antique cast iron and wood tape dispenser was likely made by the"Gummed Products Co. of Troy Ohio which existed from about 1914 until the mid 1950s. According to research the current company name is"Troy Laminating& Coating Inc" a Chargeurs company) and still operates in Troy, Ohio. Completely untested and being sold"as is" this neat little what-cha-ma-call-it conversation piece measures about 9.5" long and about 5" by about 4" otherwise. Very nice lightly used 555ES up for offers. Or just buy it now. I disassembled the unit to clean and check all functions of this unit. It has a new brush. The chain drive has been inspected for proper tension and lubed. All of the tape particles and dust(from use) has been cleaned and removed. The blade and cleaner felt has been oiled properly. All of the size buttons work properly. As do the repeat and remaining buttons. It has the water bottle. Water tray, new brush and power cord. The heater top has very minimal cut marks and heats up perfectly. Normally they have numerous deep cut marks from untrained users. In some of the pics it shows it disasembled but that was when I was refurbing it. It is fully assembled now and funtions perfectly. Old COUNTERBOY Tape Dispenser BETTER PACKAGES INC SHELTON CT USA This dispencer is in great shape. Complete, and is all original. Featues include copper water tray in which a brush sits in that brushes water on the tape when it runs through. The brush is probably made of horse hair. There is a handle on top that you push and pull down to run the tape through the water and out the dispenser. It also has a push down cutter. All 4 rubber feet are present. No attempts were made to polish, clean or restore this item. Patent numbers are easily read. This has definately been used but well taken car of. This in one neat piece. I know nothing about this, it was in a basement of an office building that has been vacant for a while. It has the original water bottle that was used to moisten the packaging tape. It was sold by a distributor, Herb Meier, 115 Cloverdale Rd. Rochester NY, as stated on the label. Very heavy. At a guess, I think you would need to replace the brushes. Sold AS IS
