Early 70s EP-3 FOR AUCTION- This unit is in good working order with original foot switch. She has been cleaned. Inspected and updated for another 40 years of musical and mirth. If you haven't used a TAPE delay before, get ready! The EP-3 provides the control and variability of digital units, the ease of operation of analog units and the warmth of tube delay. An endless loop tape reel feeds through the unit's three-head system(record, playback[moveable] and erase heads) to allow either delay or layering(i.e. sound on sound" modes. Echo volume and sustain independently controlled. The unit has been serviced to update the original 2-prong cord with a grounded. 3-prong model. Additional service includes motor cleaning and lubrication, replacement of leaking capacitors, cleaning of heads, tape path and pots as well as securing the ... morefasteners. The result is improved signal to noise ratio through reduced tape hiss, eliminated ground hum and improved noise control due to unit's physical structure. This echoplex has been running quietly enough for use in studio where it was patched into a Tascam M520 24 channel mixer providing a specialty delay to the auxiliary. Nonetheless. It is still has mechanical sounds common to operation of a motor, tape and fan. Before that. This unit saw studio time on the other side of the glass. It was used in tandem with a Fender blackface Deluxe Amp to amplify Sean Costello's electric guitar work on his debut album, Call the Cops. I had this unit listed last week and pulled it after verifying operation. When the"echo volume" control is maxed out(it goes to 10) The volume of the echo signal eclipses the original signal, and the echo is all you hear. I had thought this was a dead spot, but it makes sense- at"10" the echo is at 100% and the original signal is at zero. So the pot is not defective. Essentially, the unit is working as it should. Nagra IV IVD-3 Open Reel Tape Recorder, w/ flight case, no reserve
This is a used Nagra Model IVD-3 professional open reel tape recorder. Housed in a very rugged flight case. Nagra’s model IV had several incarnations over the years, but retained the basic form that was so successful for literally decades. Included with this Nagra is a xerox copy of a 60-some page 4.2 instruction manual that was with this recorder. While the 4.2 is a later version of the IVD. Most all of the manual also applies to the older IVD. It’s a very useful, detailed document. Cosmetically it shows use. With scratches, some discoloring; the top cover similarly has scratches, but no cracks or breaks, and it retains its sturdiness and full functionality– including the front latch. The battery compartment is very clean. This recorder uses 12 D-size batteries, which will not be included in order to conserve shipping weight. The basic transport ... morefunctions and record/ play were briefly tested to ensure basic operation. However. As this is vintage equipment, there is no warranty. What is shown in the pictures is exactly what you will receive, except that the tape reels shown in some of the pictures are not included. The reel retainer nuts are of course included. 3M-Matic 800r3 Random Case Sealer. 3" AccuGlide II Tape Heads(Upper& Lower) This taper is in perfect working order. I completely went through this unit. And is more a"seller refurbished" taper than used. All parts that were worn. Missing, or broke were replaced. All safety labels are intact as from the factory, and some have been replaced. The tape heads have been taken apart, cleaned, inspected, lubed, with new cutting blades, and buffing rollers are good yet. The polyurethane bumpers, have been replaced(orange parts in pics) These polyurethane parts turn to goo after years. And are something to look for, and need replacing when buying a used taper. The belts are brand new.
