Antique 9 Piece Coin Silver Spoons by W. Pitken W.M.& J.W. Root ~with Monogram
This is a beautiful set of 9 antique coin silver spoons. I believe it is coin silver because it was made by the Pitken Co. of Connecticut. Who were in operation from 1820-1880 and made items in coin silver. I only polished one piece to see what it looked like and to read the lovely monogram, which I think says A.G. Brackett. It is time again to sell some of my over 200 pipes. I can't smoke them all! This classic Dunhill was bought new around 45 years ago and has been lightly smoked. As any Dunhill lover knows they are one of the BEST SMOKING PIPES IN THE WORLD due to the oil curing of the wood. I have over 30 Dunhills. This classic 475 Poker or as Dunhill calls the shape. A"Friendly" made in 1961, due to the number'1' without an underscore on the shank, personifies the classic English poker pipe. If you don't have this shape in your Dunhill collection, you should be ASHAMED of yourself! The cross-cut grain and color is absolutely incredible. There are just a few minor scratches, They can be steamed or buffed out easily) I don't buff any of my pipes. There are no significant bite marks and the rim is in mint condition. These older ... morepieces make the new Dunhills look BAD. These older pieces were still oil-cured. The newer ones are not! THE BARREL IS a ROOTBEER COLOR BROWN GLASS AND HAS THE WORDS BARREL OF BEER WRITTEN IN TWO PLACES MY HUSBAND thinks IT was GIVEN TO HIM AS A DAD'S ROOTBEER PROMOTIONAL ITEM. BUT THE WORD DAD'S IS NOT WRITTEN ANY PLACE. THERE is. HOWEVER a listing on eBay that has 2 barrel glasses like this, that ad says 1970's collectibles DAD'S ROOTBEER THIS IS A SMALL LIGHT FIXTURE. It uses a night light bulb. The barrel is 5 1/2" tall-the center of the barrel is approx 3" across. The whole fixture is approx 9" long. I don't remember ever seeing it on the wall-but there is a very small bit of light cream color paint on the cord and that is the color on our wall-hmm and it has been in a closet in our smoke free- pet free home for more than 40 years. Frostie Root Beer thermometer I am offering a hard to find original Frostie Root Beer advertising thermometer. Not sure of actual age but I' m thinking 50s. This is the spring loaded type thermometer and it is not reading accurately. I put it outside to see if it reacted to the cold and it did. But never seemed to reach the actual temp. So it is less than perfect in the"working" condition department. Otherwise it is an absolute beauty. Some typical wear and aging evident but mostly just on the metal band, and the back of the thermometer. The face is in excellent condition as is the glass. Just a bit of finish issues at the very bottom where the"drain hole" is but that hardly takes away from how nice the rest of the the piece is. It's a beauty.
