This is a nice pair of Japanese police rank badges from the 1960s-70s. These were worn on the collar of the tunic and the shirt. These are the badges for a police constable. This is a great example of a Royal Navy-issue beret for a Petty Officer. The size is 57cm which is a medium size. It is in used but very good condition. It has a leather band and it is fully lined inside with black cotton. The badge at front is a brass-white-metal badge and it is in very good shape. Acompanying the beret is an RN breast badge. This is 5 1/2 inches in length. Made from an olive-green. Cotton cloth and embroidered with black lettering. It has a merrowed edge. In new and unused condition. This auction is for items used by James P. Russell in his duties as a law officer in Kankakee. And Kankakee County, Illinois. They date to the era circa 1900(1890-1910) One is a deputy sheriff badge for the city of Kankakee. It is a five star badge; looks to be copper with nickle plating. There is period wear all over. The pin has been reattached long ago. The other badge is smaller; Deputy Sheriff, Kankakee Co. Worn as well. No repairs noticeable. An election promotion with his photo noting his past military life as"One Of Custer's Scouts-The Old Soldier" Lastly, a"stolen" card detailing items taken in a break in. Shows his title as City Marshal. All these items are originals. As provenance of Mr. Russell's service with the 7th Cavalry is a copy(Not The Original-That's Not For Sale) of his discharge from the ... moreunit in 1871. Also included is a copy(Not The Original) of him and two of his friends standing in front of a large image of Captain Benteen. Copies(Again-Not The Originals) of his veteran's paperwork. Newspaper articles, and family photos are included in the sale. James P. Russell enlisted on August 27th 1866 at Indianapolis. Indiana. He served in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Indian Territory, and Tennessee. He left the service after five years service, discharged August 27, 1871. He was assigned to Captain Benteen's troop"H" and became First Sergeant by the time his enlistment was concluded. At the Battle Of The Washita against Black Kettle's village. Captain Benteen's troop was part of Major Joel Elliott's attack unit. Three troops were so engaged; Troop G under Captain Barnitz, Troop H under Captain Benteen, and Troop M under 1Lt. Owen Hale. James Russell participated in this battle, as well as the followup efforts to locate Major Elliott and his command. Scarce examples of the large sleeve Crown insignia used by Warrant Officers Class II from 1915 onwards. Prior to 1915 these large size crowns had been worn by First Class Staff Sergeants surmounting three stripes. Rare to find these. The examples on offer are of typical WW1 high quality embroidery. The ROTC badge has an eagle and has a screw post back and is about 2 1/8" by 2" wide. I think the metal is brass, but I’m not 100 percent sure. The Rutgers has a nice ruby part to it.
