JBL 2426H 1" Horn Compression Driver 2426HAPL for Guitar Talk Box
Fully tested and sounds great. Measures 3.1 ohms across the binding posts. The"PL" at the end of the model number I am given to understand"protector-less" Which I gather must mean it does not have the protective"rubber tire" shell around the magnet, which applied to these drivers when installed in complete JBL systems. I guess they only installed the rubber tire on the drivers sold individually as the 2426H. A am not sure what the A stands for. All this may seem confusing since this one appears to have the rubber tire. But aha! It did not when I got it. And JBL doesn't make them any more. But I was lucky enough to contact JBL when they had just a few left, and I was able to obtain them for this and a couple of others that I'm keeping. They say the EV"Golden Throat" is the go-to driver for building ... moreyour own home brew guitar talk box ala Joe Walsh or Peter Frampton. I have built a number of these using much cheaper drivers from outdoor PA horns as well as the EV and one of these JBLs. None of the cheap drivers were worth the trouble other than as experiments. The EV really does sound good. But this one is hands down the top dog in my opinion. Having the right driver for this application makes all the difference in the world for getting clarity in what you're trying to express with a talk box, both with respect to vocal articulation and just plain tone. A word of caution: if you use a tube amp with your talk box, do NOT use an A/B switch to change speakers with the amp powered up. Never run a tube amp with no speaker load as it can damage the output transformer. Either shut the amp down to switch or simply use a dedicated amp for this device. Since I like to use a super saturated and compressed signal into the talk box and it doesn't require a lot of power anyway I usually just use a 20-watt solid state Fender practice amp and A/B my signal from the guitar rather than the output from my main amp. Will be packed carefully for shipping via USPS Priority Mail.
