VINTAGE ENWELL BIKE PATROL AIR SIREN BATTERY-POWER w/BICYCLE HANDLEBAR MOUNTING
This is a rare gem: a battery-powered electric motor-driven Enwell Patrol Siren(not a horn) A bicycle air siren from sometime in the late 1950s or 1960s, all-metal construction with a gleaming shine. It has a white steel lower shell, a hinged, chrome-steel top, and a gold anodized upper front grille, quite a dazzler. Open up the metal case and you find an electric motor driving a vaned-rotor air siren. The same kind as the air-raid sirens you see in old war movies. Press the handlebar button and the motor winds it up into a classic little siren wail. Neat. The siren is not small: it's 5¾" long. 3" wide and about 2¼" high(plus the mounting bracket) When found, its original mounting bracket was missing, so I have added a clean used mounting bracket of the same dimensions. The handlebar-mounted pushbutton is on a ... more10" extension lead. This was apparently installed for a short while. After which it was stored for many years. It was partly dismantled for a careful polishing to bring back its shine, and a wax to keep it that way. It shows a few scuff marks on raised edges, and has a very slight downwards dent on the top edge of its front grille, but nothing that's obvious. Note that this is not a loud siren. You're not going to part traffic with it; in fact I think the usual vintage electric bike horns are louder than this. But just to find a complete, working example like this at all is a rare treat, so don't miss it. This is a cosmetically gorgeous example in perfect working order, and will look great on your vintage bike. I will include two new alkaline D-cell flashlight batteries(packed separately) so that you can just bolt it on and start riding!
