Aesthetic Movement 3 piece Victorian Parlor Set. Hard to Find!
American Aesthetic Movement three piece Parlor Set. Look around on Ebay at all the"attributed' to this or that maker" and their outrageous prices. This is a three piece set. Settee and two matching chairs. Its not a'high end' set but a set you would expect to find in prosperous Middle upper middle class Victorian home. Most likely it was made in either Grand Rapids or Cincinnati. Its not Herter, not Jeliff. The American Aesthetic Movement was a bridge from the more formal Empire and early Victorian furniture to Craftsman and Art Noveau. Common themes were Anglo Japanesque or in this case an Acanthus leaf design that goes up either side of the main settee and is repeated on the arm and side designs. This set has older upholstery that I estimate is maybe 6-8 yrs old. As is common with Red Upholstery(there is some sun fading ... moremostly on the settee) but it does not really take away from the overall beauty of the set. It looks like the upholsterer did good job. They did make a common, and wise, repair to the"floating back" settee design by replacing the"dowelled" connection with a lag bolt and side screws. This makes for stronger back. Some of the gimp has been recently replaced and you can tell the old from the new. Settee back is tight and the arms are good and secure. Obviously this is not something you want your kids jumping on. Its a formal parlor set. The chairs look really great and don't have a much sun fade as the settee They are good and tight. I have tried to describe these as well as I can. They are not"museum pieces" I originally planned to reupholster these in a two tone aesthetic pattern but I have carriage house full of projects and not enough time to get around to them. Footboard and rails, the original springs will also be included) chest of drawers/dresser, and hard to find cabinet which originally held a wash basin. The cabinet was slightly modified in the early 1900's for kneedlepoint. Knitting, and/or sewing use. The bed is sometimes referred to as the"Jenny Lind" style. These are original authentic pieces fashioned out of beautiful sturdy hardwood with the original finish. There is minor wear, but all are in remarkable condition for their age. The foot of the bed frame does have a chip which I have tried to show in the pictures. The photos do not do these pieces justice, they are the best I could get in my friend's garage. This is a Three Piece set of Vintage Ivory lace Curtains containing a pair of Swag Curtains and a Matching Longer panel Curtain that you would hang below the swags. To the floor, to make a elegant look. See photos for a idea of how to hang. Each SWAG panel Measures 39" Wide by approx 37" Long(At longest point and 14 inches long at center) So the pair of swags would be 78" Wide. The Panel Lace Curtain. To hang below the swags, would go to the floor. It measure 40 inches wide by 61 inches long. In the photo I hung the swag curatins on a standard pocket rod.
