The History of the Tea Cup& Saucer An early custom of drinking tea was to drink it from a"tea bowl" Designed with curved sides the tea bowl, looking much like the saucers we know today, were used due to the larger surface area, which allowed the fluids to cool down more rapidly. The"East Indian Trading Company" in the 1700's was the first to import the tea bowls from China. The tea bowls were also designed to hold less fluid than the metal cylinders that were used for coffee. Due to the high cost of tea at the time. These 3 buttons have what looks like a fabric center. But I think it is a textured celluloid. It's surrounded by a band of 8 stars against a blued steel background which has a mirror effect. The stamped brass front wraps over the edge lapping over the black steel backing. It has an old style loop shank. All this in a 1/2 inch width. This size is often referred to as vest buttons. The pineapple measures 4-1/4inches tall and 2-1/2 inches in diameter. It has a few scratches on the one side. The banana is 7-1/2 inches long and 1-1/2 in diameter and has a chip in each end. The grapes measure 8-1/2 in length and 3-1/2 wide and 3 inches tall. Has a wood cork stopper that holds it together. The grapes have a few scuff marks.
