This auction is for the 4 jaw chuck shown in the photos. I bought this from a local firm that went out of business- I had to buy three to get the one I wanted. As you can see. The chuck is a Skinner made for South Bend, part number 4006-51. The spindle mount is 2 1/4 by 8 threads per inch, which fits the Heavy 10(10L) and 13 inch South Bend lathes, as well as some Logan lathes. A vocational trade school has closed its machine shop program. The main shop as well as the affiliated satellite machine shops are in the process of being liquidated. As the items are released for disposition they will be offered for sale. I will do my best to provide an accurate description. 2-south bend 13" lathes; 5 and 6' beds; cl145b, cl145c, 4 chucks, lots of extras
I am parting with two of my south bend 13 inch lathes. One is a 6' 1 3/8 spindle bore threaded chuck and the other is a 5' 1 3/8 spindle bore cam lock. They are both made in 1968 according to date stamping and the lack of wear is remarkable on both machines. The 6' bed model is an ongoing project. It has slightly less wear than the 5' model so I decided to fully renovate it and have a machine that will last any man a lifetime. I bought all new name/information plates, new leadscrew nuts, all felts and wipers, belts, headstock brass shims, everything that is required to revitalize one of these lathes. I had to take on a new position at work that leaves me with zero time to finish that project and unfortunately I have to clear the workshop space that it now takes up. Most all of the lathe is ready for a top coat of paint and ... morereassembly. The 5' bed lathe is in great working condition right now and could be wired and start making parts tomorrow. Both lathes showed less than.002" variance from one extreme end of the bed to the other. Spindles both are far inside the acceptable tolerance as measured per south bend specs. The 6' bed has a threaded spindle, 1 3/8" bore, and comes with a 4 jaw and a Buck 6 jaw scroll chuck. The 6 jaw chuck is in great condition and returns within total indicated runout of.0005" the 4 jaw saw less use and is in great shape as well. The 5' bed lathe is cam lock spindle, 1 3/8" bore, and comes with a 3 and 4 jaw chuck. There is a quick change toolpost and tool holders, knurling tool, south bend proprietary taper adapter, steady rest, follow rest, and some misc. tooling that all goes with these lathes. There are some parts that I was hunting for and I have called and talked to Grizzly, now the owner of south bend, and they still have NOS parts laying around for these lathes as well as a vast amount of them that are available through used equipment dealers.
