When turned on, I hear a very quiet hum, like it's getting electricity, but it doesn't do anything. It won't respond when any keys are pushed. The paper ruler has come off and one of the springs is stretched and no longer useable. There is a strip that is coming loose as well. This is shown in the photos. All the keys are there. There is a lever missing off the top. This is shown in the photos as well. All-n- all, the typewriter has been neglected and is not in very good shape. It's also very dirty under the keys and on the inside. There is some wear on the body. There are a few areas where the paint has chipped away and it's dirty in some places, including some white out spots. Some numbers are written in sharpie on the underside. This item is clean and appears to be in good condition. It comes with all the accessories pictured which include: 1x IBM Selectric II 1x Box of 4x IBM Lift Off Tape Cartridges 1x IBM High Yield Correctable Film Ribbon 1x Unused Prestige Elite 72 Ball 1x Holder For Red Correcting Arrow Part 1x Original Operating Manual 1x Dust Cover I don't know enough about these to sell it as anything other than as is. I've tested the keys to the best of my ability and they all appear to work fine except that some do not raise or raise slowly. I did some research and it sounds like it just needs to be lubricated which is an easy job for one to do on their own. IBM Selectric Typewriter This listing is for one used IBM Selectric typewriter. Typewriter is in original condition. Case has original red color. Typewriter works. However, does need some adjustment. I believe all the keys work, upper and lower case. The font/ball is Elite 12. Please carefully review the attached photos to determine the typewriter's exterior condition. One photo is a short typed note. As you can see. The carrier doesn't move the full distance when on the right side of the typewriter. The tab key works, however, sometimes is stubborn. Sometimes the carriage return will advance one line and sometimes two lines. The round handle on the right side of the roller requires re-gluing or replacement; when turned, the platten does not move. One must use the left side knob to manually advance the roller(or the carriage return ... morebutton) Sometime when one hits the carriage return, the roller will just keep advancing. Most of the time the space bar works, however, sometimes when the carrier is on the left side it takes a couple clicks. Then it works fine going across the page. The motor seems to work fine, however, something is probably not perfectly aligned as it will make a steady noise. If the typewriter is tapped or touched, then the noise goes away and the typewriter just purrs(like it should) Then out of the blue, it will start again. I don't know anything about typewriters. I'm sure someone with some technical knowledge could put this unit back into tip top shape with a few adjustments. All items shipped via USPS will have USPS Tracking. If available. This was my mother's typewriter before she upgraded to a Kaypro computer. I believe. I plugged it in and typed a few words, but then it jammed. The bar thingy that holds the paper in place is whopper jawed and needs to be fixed. I'm guessing someone who knows typewriters would find fixing these things fairly easy, but I'm not sure. Buyer would be taking it as is. I realized the extra balls in the pictures belonged to a different type of typewriter when I started listing, although if someone knows otherwise, let me know. Our parents are getting to that point where they need assisted living more than they need things. So my husband and I hope we can ease their transition somewhat by selling their stuff and giving them the cash. Here is a nice 15" Selectric I with carbon ribbon that is almost ready for sale. I am mid-overhaul and will complete this by May 8. I buy several here on ebay and Craigslist and the fallout rate is very high. With one good one to maybe five not-so-great units which I use as parts donors for the special machines that I finally do sell here. The higher impact speed along with a sweeter touch are the older series calling card. This machine is a rare find and was a joy to overhaul and present for sale. I personally tested this. And got some help from my mom as well since I have not had much experience with these. From the best we could tell, it just needs new tape as it will peck at the paper but makes odd feint symbols. Maybe the typing unit needs turned to get the correct symbols. I can't guarantee that it will fully work after the new tape is put on. Because as I said before, I don't have much experience with these, but that was the best we could tell. The unit does fully power on and all the buttons I tested work. The last picture included is some of the typing that was done while I was testing the unit.
