Vintage 1963/64 Olivetti Underwood Lettera 32 Portable Typewriter with Case Vintage 1963/64 Underwood/Olivetti Underwood Lettera 32 portable typewriter with original case. Made in Italy We are very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this very cool 1960s retro portable typewriter. This Lettera 32 was designed in 1963 by Marcello Nizolli. As a replacement for the popular lettera 22, which was introduced in 1952. Both machines are mechanically similar, the major difference being the size, and type of carrying case, and the size of the keys. Most Lettera 32s were made in the plant located in Barcelona, Spain. This typewriter is labeled"Made in Italy" so it was made in the Turin, Italy plant. Around 1959 Olivetti had controlling interest in the struggling American Underwood typewriter company, and eventually phased out ... moreall underwood designs in favor of the Olivetti designs. This typewriter comes in it's original case. The case is approximately 12 3/4 wide, 13 1/2 front to back, and 3 3/4 inches tall. This typewriter weighs 12 pounds. Condition- This typewriter is in very good condition. There are some blemishes on the front panel. Just left of the badging. and some small smudges on the sides, but no major scratches, or blemishes. The Case- The case is in very good condition as well. If you are collector of vintage typewriters. This vintage Olivetti Lettera 32 compact portable typewriter comes in very good cosmetic condition. With minimal wear to the blue/teal body and hardware(see pictures) All keys strike properly, t he space bar and back space are functional. And the carriage moves properly. The ribbon is fairly good, but will eventually need replaced(see type sample) The unit has a blue soft case, which is fully intact but has a few spots of soiling, wear, and moisture stains on the inside lining. Some of the original paperwork is present, including a parts diagram. This is a classic. Functional collector piece with mid-century styling. The typewriter seems to work smooth and proper, but ribbon may need changing soon. Typewriter could also use a little detail cleaning. The case is still very useable and holds the typewriter well, but the zipper has come loose from the binding in one spot and some trim is damaged slightly in another spot, both of which can be seen in the photos. Holy Grail! 1934 Red OLIVETTI MP1 ICO Typewriter Modelo Portatile Art Deco Era
The MP1(Modello Portatile 1) Ico(Ingegnere Camilo Olivetti) was the first Olivetti portable typewriter and was introduced in 1932. Designed by Aldo Magnielli. It is a superb example of the Italian"Novecento" style. Serial number 114470 dates it to 1934. The machine is in working order. Could probably use a good cleaning. We'll do our best to answer any questions about the machine, but bear in mind that we are not typewriter experts. We were able to type out the pictured text without any problems. Other than that, we've done no testing and are not aware if any of the levers and settings are not working properly. If you need something checked out, you may need to give us specific instructions on what to test but we're happy to do it. There are some scratches to the chassis as shown in the photos at right. Also a few small ... morebut deep nicks on the edge of the chrome portion of the return lever. The case has lots of wear but latches securely. Handle is solidly attached. VINTAGE 1960 's OLIVETTI PRAXIS 48 ELECTRIC TYPEWRITER BY ETTORE SOTTSASS Tested
Working Olivetti PRAXIS 48 Electric Typewriter with hard case and power cord. I did some cleaning. But I did not disassemble the inner components, so there will still be some dust, residue and eraser pieces inside this typewriter. It's in good working condition. The only issues I encountered were the removal of the ground wire prong from the plug. A few(very few) scratches or blemishes on the exterior and a dry ribbon. I was able to type"The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" without any problems; I could make out the sentence, but there wasn't enough ink to leave the words visible on paper. There was also a loose spring in the case. It is pictured in the photo of the dirty Q-tips. It will remain in the case. But I cannot tell you whether it came from the typewriter. if it did, the effect of it's separation has ... morenot been revealed. Like all the old typewriters. If you type too fast, you'll find the keys stick, but a simple backspace frees them up. This will likely ship via FedEx unless a different shipping method is request prior to payment. This is a gleaming cleaned and reconditioned 1950s Underwood Olivetti Lettera 22 manual portable typewriter in blue-green with excellent case and new platten. Made at Olivetti headquarters Ivrea, Italy. A Lettera 22 is in the permanent collection of MOMA. It's been rigorously examined and approved by our QC department. See last pic. It has a very cool folding return lever. Shown in both positions, and a lock lever for stabilization during shipment. This listing includes a reproduction printout of the owner's manual. Olivetti purchased Underwood i 1959. So this comes from that year or just after. Compact and elegantly styled. It's an award winning classic. Per Wikipedia: It was awarded the prize in 1954. In 1959 the chose the Lettera 22 as the best design product of the last 100 years. The typewriter is sized about 27x37x8 cm(with ... morethe lever adding about 1–2 more centimeters in height) Making it quite portable at least for the time's standards, even though its 4 kg(8.8 lb) weight may limit portability somewhat. Many famous authors used this model: Leonard Cohen. Ann Landers, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Sylvia Plath, Gay Talese, and Gore Vidal, to name a few. Who knows what brilliant words may have been tapped out from this very instrument in the past. Or will be in the future. It has a brand new platten. The zipper case has the owner's name written fainly. Shame on you Virginia Stansel. May your name live in infamy. The zipper works well although it likes to close slightly off-center of the handle. It's nice and clean except for Virginia's name. There is an engraved number scrawled on the lower right back of the case. But does need new ribbon(all ribbon is on one side) I only noticed what looks like a tiny ding on the back left and tried to show this in pictures(sorry my camera is acting up lately and pics are not the best) There is a bit of wear to the top if look closely(guessing it is from putting it in and out of case. The Olivetti Lettera 32 is a portable mechanical typewriter designed for Olivetti in 1963 as the successor of the popular Olivetti Lettera 22. This typewriter was popular amongst journalists and students. The typewriter is sized about 34x35x10 cm(with the carriage return lever adding about 1-2 more centimeters in height) Making it portable at least for the time's standards, even though its 5.9 13 Lbs weight may limit portability somewhat. Cormac McCarthy used an Olivetti Lettera 32 to write nearly all of his fiction. Screenplays, and correspondence. The Lettera 32 that he purchased in 1963 was auctioned by Christies on 12/4/09 to an unidentified American collector for $254,500, more than 10 times its high estimate of $20,000.
