At some point it stopped working. Cosmetically. It is in very nice condition. As you can see in my third photo. The thin metal tape that pulls on the ball to make it rotate is either broken or has come undone. In addition to that it most certainly needs a new ribbon and a good cleaning and may very well have other issues I am not aware of. It powers up and the motor runs. But it simply is not functioning. IBM Selectric ii Correcting Typewriter Beige/Tan- Model 8X made in Canada Purchased at a second hand sale The unit types and the characters are easy to read on paper. The carriage also seems to be in good working order. The lift tape looks like it's only half used but it doesn't correct. The correcting key works so it may just be a matter of replacing the tape. I have no idea when it was last serviced. Not sure about all of item's functionality. I did not do anything to the machinery/mechanisms including cleaning. There are also two additional labels on the unit aside from IBM's: service called American Typewriter SVC-E who are no longer in business and a warning label of some sort to watch hair. Very good condition. Works perfect. Types and erases. New ribbon in package. Cover is super rare. Extremely impressive condition. That being said. It does have a few scratches where paint finish is harmed(lost the gloss) but they are only visible at certain angles. Easily touch-up-able. The picture looking straight at the keyboard has a noticeable white spot on the right front edge. it is white-out, is easily removable.
