This typewriter has the longer 15" platen to accommodate 8-1/2" x 11" and 8-1/2" x 14(legal) size paper sideways(or landscape. As we now call it) in the platen. The Operating Instructions and Cover($29.95 value) are included as shown. Buy this typewriter and I will also include the pad that it is sitting on. This typewriter is capable of both Pica(10) and Elite(12) spacing. I had this typewriter serviced by IBM every year- under my own Maintenance ... moreAgreement. This was my mother's typewriter before she upgraded to a Kaypro computer. I believe. I plugged it in and typed a few words, but then it jammed. The bar thingy that holds the paper in place is whopper jawed and needs to be fixed. I'm guessing someone who knows typewriters would find fixing these things fairly easy, but I'm not sure. Buyer would be taking it as is. I realized the extra balls in the pictures belonged to a different type of typewriter when I started listing, although if someone knows otherwise, let me know. Our parents are getting to that point where they need assisted living more than they need things. So my husband and I hope we can ease their transition somewhat by selling their stuff and giving them the cash. See the last few pictures for"defects" Some foam on the left inside case is degrading. A couple of wear marks where the top closes. The surface texture is slightly worn at the two front corners. Tested and seems to be working I am not an expert. Although I did use one of these once upon a time, and I mostly tested by pushing levers and keys randomly until something happened. It took awhile but I fianlly figured out how to correct, I am not sure what the A-E lever does.maybe the pitch?it has subtle effect on the angle. I assume the 10- 12 lever is for pitch though. The outer shell is very hard heavy steel. Still has the original power cord. When I plug it in. It doesn't boot up, but I don't know where the power switch is, or how it operates. It may work, it may not- and it probably needs a complete overhaul. It has some dust. So I know it needs cleaned. As you can see, some of the keys have a white residue, which is easily removed with a Mr. Clean Magic eraser. I wiped off many of them to show you that they do come back to black. Here is a nice 15" Selectric I with carbon ribbon that is almost ready for sale. I am mid-overhaul and will complete this by May 8. I buy several here on ebay and Craigslist and the fallout rate is very high. With one good one to maybe five not-so-great units which I use as parts donors for the special machines that I finally do sell here. Vintage IBM Selectric II Correcting Typewriter - Brown Beige
I personally tested this. And got some help from my mom as well since I have not had much experience with these. From the best we could tell, it just needs new tape as it will peck at the paper but makes odd feint symbols. Maybe the typing unit needs turned to get the correct symbols. I can't guarantee that it will fully work after the new tape is put on. Because as I said before, I don't have much experience with these, but that was the best we could tell. The unit does fully power on and all the buttons I tested work. The last picture included is some of the typing that was done while I was testing the unit. IBM Lexmark Wheelwriter 1000 Typewriter Cleaned Tested Working
Tested and everything works fine. Although there is plenty of ribbon left. It seems to be sticky meaning the ribbon stops pulling out and you have to give it a manual tug, so you should replace the ribbon cartridge. Wheel works/prints fine(see photos) There are a couple of spots where it seems that some glue spattered and dried on. They're not in spots that affect anything. The worst one can be seen in the photos on the plastic case above the ribbon cartridge. No issues. Good working machine.
