Dual pitch(either 10 or 12 spaces per inch) and line-and-a-half vertical spacing. Like its predecessor. The Selectric II was available in standard and wide-carriage sizes and in various colors, including red and blue as well as traditional neutral colors. This was my mother's typewriter before she upgraded to a Kaypro computer. I believe. I plugged it in and typed a few words, but then it jammed. The bar thingy that holds the paper in place is whopper jawed and needs to be fixed. I'm guessing someone who knows typewriters would find fixing these things fairly easy, but I'm not sure. Buyer would be taking it as is. I realized the extra balls in the pictures belonged to a different type of typewriter when I started listing, although if someone knows otherwise, let me know. Our parents are getting to that point where they need assisted living more than they need things. So my husband and I hope we can ease their transition somewhat by selling their stuff and giving them the cash. See the last few pictures for"defects" Some foam on the left inside case is degrading. A couple of wear marks where the top closes. The surface texture is slightly worn at the two front corners. Tested and seems to be working I am not an expert. Although I did use one of these once upon a time, and I mostly tested by pushing levers and keys randomly until something happened. It took awhile but I fianlly figured out how to correct, I am not sure what the A-E lever does.maybe the pitch?it has subtle effect on the angle. I assume the 10- 12 lever is for pitch though. Here is a nice 15" Selectric I with carbon ribbon that is almost ready for sale. I am mid-overhaul and will complete this by May 8. I buy several here on ebay and Craigslist and the fallout rate is very high. With one good one to maybe five not-so-great units which I use as parts donors for the special machines that I finally do sell here. The higher impact speed along with a sweeter touch are the older series calling card. This machine is a rare find and was a joy to overhaul and present for sale. I personally tested this. And got some help from my mom as well since I have not had much experience with these. From the best we could tell, it just needs new tape as it will peck at the paper but makes odd feint symbols. Maybe the typing unit needs turned to get the correct symbols. I can't guarantee that it will fully work after the new tape is put on. Because as I said before, I don't have much experience with these, but that was the best we could tell. The unit does fully power on and all the buttons I tested work. The last picture included is some of the typing that was done while I was testing the unit. Vintage IBM Selectric IIl Correcting Electric Typewriter 1980s
This typewriter has been sitting in storage. It will need a cleaning and possibly some light maintenance. My personal experience are as follows: I plugged it in and when I pressed on the keys the keys held in the downward position and raised slowly to the original position. The metal ball containing the letters and numbers. Works. The shift key works. There is ribbon. I have never used this type of typewriter before so I am not sure what else to check on it.
