3 Square Bevelled Corner with Waffle Base Open Salt Cellars HJ2764,2765,2769
These are three(3) square glass open salts or salt cellars. I believe these three salts are shown as Open Salts#2764. 2765 and#2969 in"5,000 Open Salts A Collector's Guide" by Heacock and Johnson. All of the salts are square with a beveled top edge, and salts 2764 and 2765 also have beveled corner edges. All three salts have a waffle design on the base, with salt#2765 having a smaller grid than the other two. The other differences are in the size of the opening and the depth of the opening. Salt#2764 measures approximately 1-1/2 inches on a side and is 3/4 inch tall; Salt#2765 measures 1-5/8 inches on a side and is 1 inch tall; Salt#2769 measures 1-3/4 inches on a side and is 1 inch tall. Heacock& Johnson attribute Salt#2764 possibly to Hobbs; it appears to be the most used of the three with two very small chips on the upper ... morerim and one on the base. It's outer upper rim is very rough which could either be from use or very sloppy manufacture. Salt#2765 is nearly perfect with only one small fleabite on one of the beveled corners. Salt#2769 has one very small fleabite on one of the beveled corners and it also has a rough inner rim which I would guess to be part of the unmolding process.
