The card inside is titled"Portable Indicator Form 44 No. 1472" There is a calibration date of 1952. The inside bottom portion of the box has a hand written date that looks to me like 8/8/22. It is in a wonderful wood box with dovetailed joints. Leather strap and looking hook closures. The meter scales are microamperes and millivolts. I believe it was for thermocouples. Very well preserved General Electric Thomson High Torque Induction Test Meter solid oak carrying case. This large case is made of 1/2 thick quarter sawn oak and was assembled using a splined miter joint for strength. Chromed brass hardware is in good working condition. The front clasp has some of the chrome worn off from use. The metal knobs on the sides were used to attach a leather carry strap(not included) The instructional label inside the lid indicates the latest patent date(April 6. 1909) and the printing date of the label(December 18, 1909) The serial number 2068420 is stamped into the wood on the upper back edge. The box measures 8" square x 10 1/4" tall. Inside measurements are 7" wide x 7 3/16" deep x 9 1/4" tall. The box was refinished with several coats of MinWax Satin Varnish and hand polished to a soft ... moreluster with 0000 steel wool and paste wax. Weston model 785 industrial electrical test meter and manual reproduction.
Here you see for sale an old but fairly-clean Weston model 785 electrical test meter. The generic term for this sort of instrument back in the day was"VOM" As in"Volt-Ohm Meter" I have NOT made any attempt to hook it up or to perform ANY tests at all. That's YOUR responsibility. Hence the magic Ebay phrase"FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY! The finish on the wood case is rough. But still there. I see NO evidence of leaked-battery damage to the battery holders. Hinges, handle and latch are intact as seen in the pictures. The contacts on the rotary switches have not been cleaned. But appear surprisingly bright and free of the usual fuzzy black silver oxides. This leads me to suspect that it was stored in the proverbial"cool dry place" The basic rating for a VOM is expressed in"Ohms per Volt" This meter ... moreis rated at 20.000 ohms per Volt DC and 1000 ohms per Volt AC. This also means that the lowest FULL-SCALE DC-Volts range is 100 millivolts. Likewise, the most-sensitive DC-current range is 50 microamps full scale. It has NO protection circuits beyond the user's good judgement. These high-sensitivity inputs have separate binding posts not shown in a close-up picture. I will include the two probes shown. This sale also includes a modern-day reproduction of the original manual. One visible defect is a cracked corner on the front panel that has been repaired with some kind of brown glue. What you see is what you get. The modern-day functional equivalent to this instrument will literally fit in the palm of your hand. This thing is what the young folks call a totally STEAMPUNK specimen. I have serious misgivings about the brittle black bakelite panel. So it will be packed in an oversized carton with plenty of fat bubblewrap to protect it from 21st-century"drop-kick" package-sorting technology. You are bidding on a used but very well maintained JDSU DSAM 3500B. I have owned this unit since 2008. Unit comes with high capacity battery and charger. Charger had new end spliced on but everything works and charges. Comes with both the meter carry case and Acterna equipment case. Original shoulder strap for both cases included. Old style battery charger(also repaired but functional) and original serial interface cable included. Ethernet port is fully operational for file and firmware transfer. Crossover needed for cloning between meters. Currently has 3.7.3 JDSU firmware which should be newest for this model. Last Calibration was 2011 but I have checked level reading on both analog and digital against currently calibrated unit and it is within +/ 5db. Ask if you have any questions. Please.
