Megger 500 Volt Insulation tester Circa 1940 A vintage test meter made by Evershed& Vignoles ltd. In good condition with purpose made leather carrying case(from the crown markings this was possibly a GPO Post office issue) The Bakelite case is in good condition with just minor scuffs and marks and someone in its past has inscribed polarity marks on the front. I know very little about how this worked but the crank handle turns and seems to work fine. The meter needle is free moving when the megger is turned upside down etc. I believe these were used to test the insulation of electrical cables. The case is in fair condition and the straps and buckles are all intact and working. Thanks for looking. apologies for the postage charge but as it weighs 1.8kg I had no choice)

Item still has the protective plastic over the display. Unit shows NO signs of use in the field and powers up without issue. Leads appear to have never been used or plugged into the unit. The last calibration document is from Megger on January 2012 and will be included with the unit. There is a small calibration number scribed under the black protective cover. Megger 212159 (MJ159) Hand-Cranked Insulation Tester
I read on the internet how the thing works and I tested it according to my understanding of the information I read. When I connected the black lead to a motor electrical lead and the red lead to the case(ground) Cranked the handle and pressed the test button the needle stayed over on the left side of the meter no shorts. When I created a dead short with the leads, cranked the handle and pressed the test button, the needle went all the way over to the right side of the meter indicating a short. This is the complete extent of my knowledge of the operation of this unit. 14 day return policy. If the unit does not function, I will reimburse shipping both ways. Please feel free to ask questions.

This is a vintage insulation tester. Made by Industrial Instruments of Cedar Grove New Jersey, for the U. S Air Force. Although this is older, it was obviously built to military specs, and should still function as a quality tester today. Everything is contained in the solid wood box- instrument, schematic, instructions, and cables. This box is approximately 18" x 12" x 12" and weighs about 10 pounds.
