Offered for your consideration is a very rare 1882 to early 1890’s era– side marked 2 ¼” tall by 3 ¼” wide(from the tip of the spout across to the opposite side of the handle) small estimated 2-3 oz. silver plate handled dairy creamer from the first and original Read House Hotel. Which was located in downtown Chattanooga Tennessee. This creamer is from the first hotel called the Read House and I’m positive not much of this original silver plate has survived over the 120+ years since it was made and used. This is the first piece of original silver I’ve ever had from the first Read House hotel and consider it quite the rarity! If you collect vintage hotel silver or historic Chattanooga items. You truly might want to consider this piece for your collection. Historically. The first Read House was not the first hotel built on this spot ... moreby the Read family. The original location was that of the Crutchfield House, that beginning in 1842, became one of the city’s main hotels and held a very tight connection with the Western Atlantic Railroad after it was built into the city by 1851. The Crutchfield also played an important part during the Civil War, which it served as a military hospital. After the war, the hotel resumed operations until it was several damaged in a flood in that same year. Later in that same year, a fire broke out in the hotel and it was lost to the ensuing blaze. After the Crutchfield was destroyed. A new brick building was built on the location of the original hotel. Some years after that in 1871, Dr. John T. Read acquired the building and converted it into his family’s namesake hotel; the Read House hotel. B 1886, an extra floor was added to the structure giving it even more room for guest’s accommodations. The hotel was quite the impressive Victorian architecture design with a large two-story front porch at the main entrance of the hotel. Tennessee. The bottle is in excellent condition with embossing down both sides, The Chattanooga Medicine Co. and"McElree's Cardui, and near perfect labels. It's empty of liquid but shows much residue. And because this bottle came from an unopened case, it's known the loss was from evaporation over the decades which is often found with medicines of high alcohol content(19% Besides alcohol, the other ingredients were Blessed Thistle, Black Haw, and Golden Seal. It states this was given as a Vegetable Bitter Tonic and Stomachic, with Antispasmodic properties valuable in relieving Functional Dysmenorrhea(painful menstruation ... morenot due to alteration of organs) It originally held 9 fl. oz. and stands 8" tall. Up for bid is a neat piece of vintage Coca cola advertising. A wood crate with red lettering on a yellow painted box. It is very sturdy and measures approximately 12 x 18 3/4" x 4" It has 4 sections designed to hold 6-packs of coke. It has the metal band straps on 2 of the corners that do show a lot of aging. There is wear of the red lettering with the both sides having very good color. The inside is pretty clean for the age. There is a broken board on the bottom which can easily be replace with another old board from a crate.
