It has however not hindered it's performance and was a result of a company that cleaned and calibrated it. This unit has been in been in storage since removed from service due to the closure of this practice for about 5 years. It will need to be cleaned and any good phoroptor service company can fix the missing screw for probably no added charge( I believe the average cleaning and calibration is about $325) I do not have the original shipping box that this unit came in. I will be charging a $50 shipping and handling fee and will include insurance for the purchased price for the lower 48 State. Up for auction is this fine old American Optical Co. Phoroptor made by the Spencer Lens Co. Scientific Instrument Division. The Model Number is 590 MC. The Serial Number is N 6326. It measures 12 1/2" in width and stands 10 1/2" tall. It weighs 12 pounds. This piece is in superb condition and has no visible scratches or blemishes. You will not be disappointed. Antique Phoropter Prism Diopters Eye Exam Doctors Equipment Medical Steampunk
I belive these are called phoropter thats my best guess from the research I have done. I dont really know much about these so i will do my best to describe them. The 1st piece pictured has a long flat metal rod connected to it. Has no lenses but I don't think it is suposed to. Appers to missing one small screw on top and one silver turning screw on back. Very cool looking peice. Next peice has 5 lenses 1 is all green 1 is all red 2 normal lenses and one that is kinda blacked out not sure if its suposed to be like that. All 5 lenses spin on the rod. Pretty sure a little pice of the plastic at end has broke off but it still holds the lenses on fine. Metal rod unscrews in the middle has some scrtches on the rod. It is a rare vintage metal and brass eye exam device- a phoropter that is engraved- De Zeng-Standear Co Makers Camden NJ. The tiny level on the instrument was made by Stanley Co New Britain CT. It has 4 layers of rotating lenses for right and left- to permit the eye to be examined at different depths and magnifications- flip down and out lenses.These seem to function well. One of the 4 layers is empty with receptacle for receiving different lenses. I do not have separate lenses for this device. The development ofopthalmic instruments in the first 20 years of the 20th century was dominated by Henry De Zeng of Camden NJ an instrument maker of many eye. I have up for sale a wonderful vintage original patent dated Sept. 18. 1917 WOOLF INSTRUMENT CORP" Ski-Optometer" optometry Phoropter/ Phoropter/ Refractor. It comes with it original cast iron wall mount bracket. The two patent dates on the device are Dec 27,1910 and Sept 18, 1917. This instrument was used in the 1920s. It was purchased direct from the 82 year old son of the original owner. He told me his dad practiced for a very short time span and did so only on a part time basis, so the device saw only limited use. This is the only one that I have seen on ebay that comes with a wall mount bracket. The ski-optometer appears to be in superb condition! Very clean and well maintained. The unit looks great and from what I can tell is complete. Three of the glass lenses are loose as you will notice them in some of my pics. I believe ... moreall the other lenses are in place. Cosmetically this is about as good as it could get- its close to perfect from my observations. Any wear is most meager- no damages nor repairs. I see that one small back screw is missing, this may be noticed if you look at the pics with the device shown- with how the patient would be looking into it. They are uncleaned, just as I found them, shown in pic#4. Three lenses were loose. When I found the device. It had been packaged away since the 1930s and has not been used or seen the light of day until I purchased it this last week. The lenses appear to be in good shape. They must have been somehow cemented into place and the adhesive let go over time. They were wrapped in old fine paper. They may have light wear but no breaks or cracks,etc. The cast iron wall mount bracket has a thick black enamel/porcelain finish. There are a few minor chips and some normal light wear. Besides the normal light wear. It works great and looks great. Not being an optometrist- I can not give a full report on if this device is fully functional- with this said it appears to be complete and in near perfect shape. American Optical Phoropter 11320, Vintage?
American Optical Phoropter. Model 11320. I've never used one of these. So I'm not familiar with how it works. Everything moves the way I assume it should. It includes what I gather is the holder. I don't think the pictures show the actual color very well, but it is actually quite pink. It has some paint scratched off a couple of places, which you can see in the pictures. This unit seems a bit older. But I wasn't able to verify its age. As such, this is an as-is sale, therefore no refunds. I have tried to describe it as best as I can. This is a refurbished vision tester. As you may know the gold std in phoropter are American optical 11625 which this is a quality type product likeness of the old AO units. If you want a SOLID reasonable quality unit for a second lane( although this is currently my primary) that will give you no problems. This CLEAN unit will do the trick. Priced to sell. The only issue is in the photo of the right and left big sphere wheel. showing touch of the Big sphere wheel with the PD quick near adjust. This phoropter is in excellent condition! Our office has used it for several years and has found it to be a remarkably reliable and accurate instrument fit for the profession's finest. Do not fall in to the trap of Chinese cr_p: this is the Gold Standard and not a cheap imitation. A durable industry workhorse. The optometrist in our office has just retired.
