Antique Medical Surgical Bladder Trocar with cannula Civil War era or earlier
A very nice and clean bladder trocar which dates to the Civil War era or earlier. It appears to be silver over brass. The handle has a good ferrule which acts to stabilize the trocar. The tip is still shinny and sharp as it has been protected by the cap. This trocar features a built in cannula which is aligned with a small hole near the end of the sheath and follows all the way back to the handle. This allows the surgeon to determine whether the trocar has been properly inserted prior to with drawing it from the sheath.
