Here is a once in a life time chance to own a extremely rare piece of American history. This piece can not only be used for practical purposes but it can also serve as a very interesting talking piece. This jack was manufactured by A.O. Norton Inc. and stamped in Boston. Mass. This is not a Duff-Norton jack, for Duff did not purchase Norton inc. until 1929. That being said, you are bidding on a functioning 25 ton railway jack with the stamped date of 1892. Arthur Norton was a very successful entrepreneur in the late 1800’s and thus the reason behind the renowned company name. In the 1880‘s. Norton purchased the rights of the jack designs from inventor Frank Sleeper and put his brand and makers marks on the finished products. Norton went on making these for over 30 years until he sold the company to The Duff Manufacturing Company in 1929. ... moreAs far as the jack is concerned. The total weight is exactly 50 lbs, has a 6" rise and is in working condition. It does not leak or stick but I would suggest giving it a“tune-up” before putting it to use. Since I’m not an expert on jacks I know little about them. It will not come with the jack handle as these are generally misplaced or lost over time. Since the handle is not included I had to test the unit by rotating the raise/lower mechanism. I want to reiterate that this unit does raise and lower easily and has the ability to bear much weight. But it is missing the handle and needs to be rotated to raise/lower. As stated before, I would recommend a proper“tune-up” so there will be no issue during use. Current pricing for newer units(1930-1950’s) is around $130-165. Since those are Duff-Norton and not near as old as this piece I’m asking $235 Or Best Offer.
