Is this WW1 German watch fob commemorating the awarding of a 1914 Iron Cross; the"strap" is actually the ribbon for an IC 2nd Class, with the fob pendant and enamelled miniature version of the 1914 dated cross. The attractive well crafted ensemble is genuinely of the war years or perhaps the early Weimar Republic, it is hard to say which. What is easier to say is that no self respecting German would have chosen such a specific symbolic ornament frivolously.there can be no doubt the man who sported this fob was a decorated combat veteran.The cross itself is of uniface form with silver or silvered(there are no marks) reverse, the enamelled front showing the ... morecrown and"W" and"1914" as proper for a WW1 issue example; the somewhat miniaturized ribbon is definitely of woven silk and obviously does not glow. Use the pics for verification and to see the offered fob is absolutely of the period in question and not some later copy pastiche. Condition is quite fine with an aura of genuine age to the silver and enamel surfaces which are still very nice overall. The ribbon is intact and strong, still well sewn to the silver wire suspender and snap attachment for the watch; the oversize ring which supports the watch is also good to go. The IC cross has a couple of tiny surface nicks to the enamel, one to the lower edge of the left arm and another near the right edge of the lower arm.again, these are very, very small and unobtrusive(see pics) A look at those pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 6 1/16 in. long including the watch clip; the cross is about 1 in. across the arms, not counting the integral loop. It was produced in the late 1970s and has the four replay heads and combined erase/record head. Unique to this version are the 4 input. 4 gain, 4 channel echo box each with an on/off switch and a master Swell and Sustain control. We specialise in tape and disc echo units and have plenty of experience seeking out good examples of these vintage units.
