Hi.When I saw this item I flashed back to Don McClean's"American Pie" Classic.and the following lyrics: I can still remember how that music used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while. And it"made me smile" as I reflected on something called a Mobil Oil Fotoscope. This 50s/60s vintage meter was used to assess the condition of an Engine's Oil. Evidently you would draw a sample of an Engines oil.and put some on a little"window" on the top of the unit.and shine a light through it.and the meter would register a value on the meterscolor-coded scale.ranging from Red(oil was due a change) Yellow(oil was getting close to requiring a change) to Green which would indicate the oil was OK. This test was evidently used in lieu of ... moretodays technique of just changing the oil every so many thousand miles.thus saving time and money. My"smile" was reinforced because it brought back memories of my first job with the U.S. Air Force. I was trained to be a(guessing at the spelling) Spectrometic Oil Analysis Program(SOAP) Technician" Back in the 1960s the USAF had many Turboprop Engined planes.and it was both labor intensive and costly to change the multi-Engined Aircrafts oil.so a sample of an Engines Oil was periodically tested with SOAP techniques to ascertain whether a change of oil was necessary(dirty. Scorched, etc. I'm pretty sure this Mobil Fotoscope was designed to do similar things for autos and trucks. Please read my listing thoroughly and view all of my PHOTOS and VIDEO: Here is a vintage Teledyne Avionics Acoustic Impedance Meter model TA-1D with case. Made in USA. Includes case, headset, extra earpieces of various sizes, calibration instructions, and the small parts/accessories shown in the photos. I was told this item is from the 1960's or 70's. It appears in good condition, there is no outer damage to the case or the machine, just some scuffs and scratches. The calibration instructions are tattered but perfectly readable. I turned the machine on and followed the calibration procedure, it worked fine and I was able to set the readout numbers as per the instructions. I put the headset on and tested the levels for both stimulus and frequencies, they all worked just as they should, from extremely faint and low up to loud and very ... morehigh pitched tones, they all worked perfectly. I don't know how to operate or test the Pressure feature but the needle on the gauge does move when I turn the dial. The case appears to be made of fiberglass, it has some scuffs and scratches but is overall in very good condition. The latches work great and there is no rust on any of the metal parts. This is a nice vintage Elenco Appliance/Auto Tester meter. I'm not sure if all of the functions work on this. But I do know that it will read ohms. I don't know much about this meter, but I will include a copy of the instruction manual that I got when I emailed the company's customer support. Elenco is still in business, but I think they make electrical toys for children, not sure if they still make electrical meters. Thanks for looking!
