Vintage Avo Meter Model EA113 The Electronic Avometer(EA113) incorporates an amplifier to increase the sensitivity of the instrument. It could be used on high impedance circuits without affecting either the operation of the circuit or the reading of the meter. The ordinary AVOs could not do this. But we tend to forget these details nowadays when all multimeters have sensitive amplifiers. It has an unusual ohms range, too, which works in the opposite direction to normal analog meters, with zero ohms on the left and infinity on the right. The ohms adjustment control must be set(with the probes apart) to infinity, instead of the usual adjustment to zero with the probes shorted. In addition to that, the red terminal is positive when measuring ohms, whereas on a normal analog meter it would be negative on ohms ranges. In most DC ranges, the meter ... morecan be set to centre-zero instead of having zero on the left. In this mode, the knob on the right is used to adjust the pointer to an accurate zero in the middle of the scale. The scale is marked 1-100 in black and 50-0-50 in red, for use in centre-zero mode. Tested and working, UK made, high power Magnetising and Magnetic Flux resetting/calibrating system that was originally used within the ITED calibration department of Decca Radar to calibrate the Alnico magnets assembly of the moving coil meter movement used in the AVO range of multimeters and other high accuracy(wooden cased) reference standard moving coil meters. It still bears ... morethe department stickers and a couple of DECCA RADAR ID plates attached; I obtained it from a test equipment reseller solely because it had good memories for me personally of my time working in that department in the 1960's. But have never used it in the 30 plus years I have owned it, other than to idly magnetise a few spanners and screwdrivers! It comprises an M.C.2.b high power magnetiser with it's accompanying magnetising fixture coil and an MS1 Magnet Setter unit with another fixture that was used to calibrate the magnet strength by backing off the flux within the magnet produced by the former unit. I believe this fixture was a custom made unit by Hirst for this specific job) There is also a wooden platten which houses the two heavy fixtures neatly. These were made in the late 1950's to mid 1960's and I have checked them over and tested them operationally using a piece of steel of suitable size to ensure they still work. this can be seen in a couple of the images which also show the units ON with the MC2b with an 800v charge showing, ready to fire!
