AVO MARK IV VALVE TESTER VCM .. RESTORED .. SUPER CONDITION
For sale is my AVO mark IV VCM which has been restored to very fine condition for my own use. Only for sale due to having too many other testers! This VCM has been dismantled and the casing resprayed in the correct hammered grey finish. The all important meter movement has been stripped. Cleaned and reglazed with anti-mist glass by Herts Meter Company. They report very little wear in the movement and linearity within 1% All the close tolerance components have been tested and were found to be fine, so left original. A resistor and a leaky diode have been replaced. The selector switch has been dismantled, cleaned and rebuilt. Finally the calibration was checked and adjustments made to factory specification as required. The factory set potentiometer dials have not been disturbed. Everything works properly and accurately. Vintage Electronic Avometer AVO Model EA113 The Electronic Avometer(EA113) incorporates an amplifier to increase the sensitivity of the instrument. It could be used on high impedance circuits without affecting either the operation of the circuit or the reading of the meter. The ordinary AVOs could not do this. But we tend to forget these details nowadays when all multimeters have sensitive amplifiers. It has an unusual ohms range, too, which works in the opposite direction to normal analog meters, with zero ohms on the left and infinity on the right. The ohms adjustment control must be set(with the probes apart) to infinity, instead of the usual adjustment to zero with the probes shorted. In addition to that, the red terminal is positive when measuring ohms, whereas on a normal analog meter it would be negative on ohms ranges. In most DC ... moreranges, the meter can be set to centre-zero instead of having zero on the left. In this mode, the knob on the right is used to adjust the pointer to an accurate zero in the middle of the scale. The scale is marked 1-100 in black and 50-0-50 in red, for use in centre-zero mode. Avometer (Avo) 8 Mark III Multimeter (GPO)
This is my late Father's Multi Meter which he obtained when he worked with the General Post Office(later to become British Telecom) as an electronics engineer. It is a Universal Avometer model 8 Mk III and has a leather box case which is in good condition for its age and the case has the initial P.O on it which I presume standards for Post Office. The case also has the letters 5B B.S.E but I do not know what they stand for. It also has the name A. Harris T/L in written in green felt pen under the the lid but I do not know who or what this relates too. A photocopy of the Model 8 Avometer Mk II is included which is almost the same as the Mk III and will give you an idea of its workings. The meter was tested around 8- 10 years ago by a friend who is skilled in electronics and he made the following comments: The AVO meter works on most ranges ... morethat I have been able to test:10. AC and DC volts seem OK and fairly accurate. Resistance is OK on normal ohms and high x 100 but the low divide by 100 needs recalibrating inside the unit. I cannot verify if these observations are still true as it was a number of years ago and has not been used since. I have therefore described it as For Parts or Not working but to be honest I would hope it would still work once new batteries are installed. I believe the batteries it requires are a U2 or D Type 1.5 Volt battery and a B121 15 volt battery. Please note. I only accept Paypal for payment and will only deliver to addresses in the UK.
