It has a nice cloth cord with two clips to connect to the phone line. There is a 3 inch dial on the top to make calls while testing. There is two buttons on each side of the handle one marked“C” and the other is“R” When the“C” button is pushed an existing call is dropped and dial tone comes back on the line. Then dial the desired telephone number and talk to the party when the call is answered. It is conditioned for operations in outdoor weather conditions. This is a Western Electric brand(made for Bell System) model 1013B telephone lineman's rotary dial test-set made in then USA in the 1970's? This piece comes from my own collection. I purchased this test set from a retired telephone technician about fifteen years ago. Along with some crimp-sets, adapter cables, connectors and some other items. This handset looks used, but not abused or mistreated. There are scuffs and scratches in the orange plastic cabinet, but no cracks, breaks or chips. This Western Electric piece was obviously made to be very durable and give many years of trouble-free service. The quality of all the components, cloth-covered cords and clip connectors all have a quality look and feel. There is an inset/protected rotary dial. The cord is about five feet long overall. Test Set – Western Electric – Early Telephone Service Repair Item- Model 43A
A wonderful piece of telephone history. Western Electric Test Equipment. Model 43-A. This heavy wooden box features dovetail joints and a now distressed green paint job. Hinges on one side and two latches on the opposite to open and lock the unit. There is a schematic diagram on the inside of the upper lid. The box has a Western Electric decal on the front, as well as on the top switch unit. It comes with two batteries as shown in the photos. The knob on the top rotates to make contact with one of the 7 contacts on top. There was a leather strap on this unit at one time, but only the ends remain on the unit now. The main box measures 10 1/2" wide. By 6 1/2" high, and 5 1/2" deep. The top unit is 2" high, by 5 1/2" wide, and 3 1/2" deep. Only what is shown in the photos is included in this lot. There may be parts ... moremissing from the original but I am not sure. Please examine all of the photos as they are an integral part of the description.
